"I don’t care how many people sign that f***ing petition." Everyone, CEO Jamie Dimon’s response to the employees who petitioned against J.P. Morgan's five-day office mandate. Had me in the first half, ngl. Some real inspiring leadership.? For a man making $39M a year, coming in "seven days a week" is a pretty sweet deal. But for everyone else? That’s more commuting costs, less time with family, and paying for childcare, house cleaning, and takeout because your job demands everything from you. To me, Dimon seems out of touch with how reality is like for most people. Where’s the empathy? This conversation also usually goes around whether remote work makes employees more vs. less productive. See, the problem is already in the question. First, inefficiency isn’t about where people work, it’s about how companies operate. I’m sorry you had to go through 14 committees to get a $2,000 team dinner approved. Second, and more importantly, why don’t we ask instead whether remote work helps people live better lives or not? Dimon is rolling out this mandate at the same time JPMorgan is laying off about around 1,000 employees (with more planned), posting record profits, and giving him an 8.5% CEO salary bump. Are we cutting inefficiencies just to help these businesses go faster and generate more and more wealth for its shareholders and executives so that maybe, just maybe, a tiny bit might “trickle down?” It’s certainly not to make the world a better place. An older business owner told me that back when he used to work for an investment firm, he had invited his boss to his wedding. Companies used to invest in your life because they knew you as a person. Now? I mean, Jamie Dimon said it himself: if you don’t like it, leave. “You can walk with your feet.” The future of work shouldn’t be about control—it should be about reciprocity. The small independently owned businesses Panbo works with values workers as people, not just line items on a balance sheet. And in return, employees speak highly of their bosses, without the need for omnipresent employee surveillance systems. If coming into the office everyday works for you, you should be able to. If working from home is best for you, you should be able to. My intuition is that having both of these options wouldn't be a problem for the company...if the company treats its workers well, if you feel fulfilled working there, and if there's mutual trust and respect between the company and you. AI is evolving at breakneck speed—as DeepSeek upends Wall Street and Trump announces $500B for AI infrastructure in this Stargate Project, we need to ask who’s actually positioned to benefit? Right now, AI development isn't just a scientific or economic endeavor; it's a geopolitical race, with billions funneling into building the most powerful models for the most powerful countries. But equitable AI adoption is lagging behind—and that’s a problem. Most people either overestimate AI’s existential risks or underestimate its immediate economic and social implications. Meanwhile, small businesses—the backbone of our economy—are being left out of the AI revolution. At Panbo, we’re tackling this gap head-on. AI shouldn’t just be a tool for the Amazons and the JPMorgans. It needs to be accessible, interpretable, and actionable for the businesses that make up our communities. That means building AI-driven insights that are easy to act on, embedding AI literacy into adoption, and ensuring independent businesses don’t get locked out of the future. The AI race isn’t just about who builds the best models. It’s about who gets to use them. #AI #startup #tech #equity

    Emergent Disruption

This Panbo post about sticky buns went viral on Instagram and TikTok. Our current metrics amass to 350,000 total views, 8000 likes, 5000 shares. This is one of 3 successful "viral" videos we've created thus far. So, what is the point? Well the subject. All videos we produce feature a small locally owned and operated business. Social media has become a HUGE asset for these businesses to leverage to reach marketing heights previously unimaginable. Think about it. How much would a commercial on TV cost to be seen by 350,000 eyes? A radio commercial? In other words, as Panbo continues to search for technology to equalize the playing field to help small businesses reclaim their economic market power, social media stands as a promising opportunity. At the highest level it is an accessible tool, with a rapid iteration cycle, low cost, and simplified functionality. However, we have found that it is one thing for a tool to exist, and another thing for it to be effectively leveraged by everyone. We have to ask ourselves what challenges and hurdles are in place that inhibit our partners from using this superpower? At Panbo we are well on our way to identifying, learning, and harnessing superpowers, to redivert it into the hands of Panbo businesses. We promise to finally turn the tide in favor of the dreamers, the disruptors, the risk-takers who are the true pillars in all communities, everywhere.

Panbo Express Takeout Order #2 is ready for your consumption. Over the month of September, Panbo has accomplished a lot. Just 2 weeks ago the breeze loyalty card did not exist. But through hardwork and teamwork we made it happen in under a week, creating the very first (from what we're aware) digitally enabled coalition loyalty program deployed across a farmers market. We are continuing to build our footprint across the city of Philadelphia, posting our Small Business Mosaic in high traffic areas so people continue to see our name and engage with our brand. The mosaic continues to be a valuable tool in starting conversations with small businesses across the city. As always if you want to stay updated in real time, head over to Panbo Daily. https://lnkd.in/eGG4PaB7 Melissa Nong, Turner Halle and myself update Panbo Daily frequently.

It's easy to talk about "supporting local." But how do we actually DO that? At Panbo, we’re helping you do that with our Philadelphia Small Business Mosaic. The Mosaic isn't just a map; it's a movement. It's an interactive tool that tells the stories behind storefronts, to show that these are more than just places to shop. They’re the People. The owners and employees who take care of us, who watch out for our kids, who care to make their services and products special for us, who GIVE BACK to the community, and who have been there for us, some for generations. And why now? Because every small business owner we've met — from the cafe that remembers your "usual" to the boutique that knows your style better than you do — reminded us of something powerful: Community isn't just WHERE we live; it's HOW we live. And if we want vibrant, thriving local economies, we have to invest in them. It’s not easy to shop local. So we asked, what if exploring your neighborhood could be as easy and fun as scrolling your feed? The Mosaic makes that possible. Take a moment today to explore the Mosaic. Discover a story. Visit a new spot. Share it with a friend. Let’s make local the default again. Ready to dive in? Check out the Mosaic and be part of the movement: https://lnkd.in/eX2Skzyi #Leadership #Innovation #SupportLocal #SmallBusinesses #CommunityBuilding #Startups #PhillyStrong #EconomicDevelopment

??It’s launch day and we’re paying people to shop local. Panbo with (Melissa Nong, Turner Halle, and myself) are excited to announce our first product: The Breeze Loyalty Card In collaboration with the Point Breeze Community Market, we are piloting the first iteration of the community loyalty co-op. Shoppers will receive a card that vendors can scan which allows them to earn money redeemable at the next week’s market. YES YOU HEARD THAT CORRECTLY we’re paying people to shop local. Shoppers receive breezy bucks each week depending on their previous shopping activity in the week prior. With 3 vendors and the market itself, these stakeholders will receive real and tangible data to retain more customers and drive engagement. This is a stepping stone to creating a data-driven community of the future, and it starts with South Philadelphia.

    Uniting Communities Around Data

Working on Panbo has made one thing painfully obvious: growth doesn’t happen in comfort zones. It happens in the messy, uncertain, and sometimes downright awkward spaces we step into when we choose to build in public.?That’s why we’re excited to introduce?Panbo Express, our monthly newsletter that’s not just about what we’re building, but how we’re thinking. Why am I telling you this? Because transparency isn’t just a buzzword at Panbo—it’s our playbook. Every step we take is shared in real-time. Read our honest reflections and insights from the trenches of entrepreneurship. In our first issue, we dive into two big moves we’ve been making: 1) The Small Business Mosaic: A Love Letter to Philly’s Local Entrepreneurs Imagine a digital space that not only connects you with local gems but also tells their stories—the struggles, the triumphs, the human moments. That’s the heart of the Mosaic. Over the past few months, we’ve sat down with 60+ small business owners across Philly to co-create a tool that celebrates their grit and determination. It’s more than a directory; it’s a movement. A testament to what happens when communities choose to support their own. 2) Panbo Dailies: The Anti-Stealth Mode We built an app. But not just any app—this one’s our way of practicing radical transparency. With Panbo Dailies, we’ve cracked open our processes, our to-do lists, and yes, even our "oh no" moments for everyone to see. It’s a bit terrifying, but that’s where growth happens. And the best part? It’s open for anyone who wants to follow along, cheer us on, or hold us accountable. So, why launch Panbo Express??Because the future of business isn't about keeping secrets. It’s about sharing journeys, learning from each other, and creating impact together. We’re not just building a company; we’re building a community. Sound interesting??Join us.?Read the first issue of?Panbo Express (attached below), and let’s redefine what it means to grow, learn, and lead in this ever-evolving landscape. Together. Reflecting on the First Few Weeks of starting Panbo in Philly: Lessons Learned Well, well, well—Philly has been a ride so far. It’s funny how things shift so quickly when you’re in the thick of it. Here are some thoughts from the first few weeks: 1. Adaptation Over Pivoting: The startup mindset often preaches “pivot,” but maybe it’s more about adapting to your current circumstances. It’s not about abandoning ship but learning to steer it through whatever waters you're in. I’m starting to think adaptation is our natural groove—just need to keep that balance right. 2. Balancing the Grind and Sanity: We push ourselves hard—like really hard—but there’s a cost. Going above and beyond is great, but I’m learning that space to breathe is just as crucial. When your brain gets that space, that’s when the real magic happens. I’m loving this role, but maybe it’s time to loosen up a bit. 3. Reflection is a Game Changer: You know, pacing can feel overwhelming at first, but then you hit that groove. I think that comes with taking a moment to step back and reflect. It’s not just about getting things done; it’s about doing them better. Shout out to the team for helping push this project forward—adaptation, reflection, and some Sabrina tunes go a long way. 4. Collaboration > Everything: This isn’t a one-man show. It’s the collective grind that makes it happen. Whether it’s the big ideas or the little tweaks, working together is what’s getting us across the finish line. I’m stoked to see what we continue to build together. 5. The Mosaic of Philly: Our Business Mosaic project started as a jank idea and turned into something real—like, really real. 60+ small businesses, countless stories, and a tool that actually engages. It wasn’t an overnight thing; it was all about raising the bar each step of the way, asking “what if?” and then making it happen. Now, let’s share it with the world. So yeah, Philly’s been intense, but it’s also been an incredible learning experience. Here’s to keeping the momentum and seeing where it all takes us next. Onwards and upwards!
