  • The Photopolymer Additive Manufacturing Alliance (PAMA) is delighted to announce that Vince Anewenter, Director of the Rapid Prototyping Consortium at the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE), has assumed the position of Chair of the PAMA Executive Advisory Board.? In addition, Dr. Callie Higgins, Material Measurement Laboratory (MML) AM Coordinator and Co-Project Leader of the Photopolymer Additive Manufacturing (PAM) Project at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Boulder, CO, has been appointed as incoming PAMA Executive Advisory Board Chair, and will assume that office in January, 2027.? With appreciation for his leadership and service, outgoing Board Chair, David Walker, CTO & Founder of PrintFoam and a Founder of Azul 3D, Inc, will continue with PAMA as Executive Advisory Board Chair, Ex-Officio. PAMA is a collaborative alliance between the National Institutes of Standards and Technology (NIST) and RadTech, a non-profit trade association. The organization brings together industry, academia, government, and NGO partners with the shared goal of establishing commonly accepted standards and practices for the advancement of 3D printing and additive manufacturing. Looking ahead to 2025, PAMA will work with industry, government, academia, and other non-profit organizations to better coordinate efforts to standardize industry terms and practices and define PAM's value propositions. PAMA also plans to focus on the rapidly emerging use of photopolymers in the consumer/prosumer/hobbyist/maker space, with an emphasis on safety, health, and environmental considerations. PAMA's next meeting is in May in Detroit, as part of RadTech 2025, which will include a short additive manufacturing/3D printing course, presentations, and panel discussions. This day recognizes the power and potential of 3D printing/additive manufacturing technology, which is transforming manufacturing, healthcare, architecture, art, and more. PAMA recognizes and supports U.S. Congressman Bill Foster (IL-11) and his colleagues, Mark Takano (CA-39), Deborah Ross (NC-2), Haley Stevens (MI-11), and Paul Tonko (NY-20), on their efforts to make 3D Printing Day a national holiday! We congratulate them all on their recent reelections to the U.S. House of Representatives. Declaring December 3rd as National 3D Printing Day would demonstrate the United States’ investment in reindustrialization, reshoring, and the future of manufacturing.   • The RadTech Degradable Materials Task Force is excited to announce the launch of the 2025 UV+EB Degradability Challenge. With only 9% of the world’s plastic waste being recycled, there is an urgent need for new materials designed to degrade safely and efficiently at the end of their lifecycle. The 2025 UV+EB Degradability Challenge aims to promote research and development of degradable materials that utilize UV+EB technology. The challenge is open to submissions that detail recent or ongoing projects, as well as new research proposals informed by existing work or literature. RadTech invites researchers, material scientists, and companies across the product development spectrum to submit materials that demonstrate degradability or have a strong theoretical basis for breaking down in specific environments. Eligible materials include but are not limited to: ?? Degradable or compostable components used in UV+EB formulations ?? Finished UV+EB products (e.g., 3D-printed items, electronics, food packaging) ?? UV+EB inks, coatings, and adhesives compliant with degradability certifications ?? 3D printing resins that can safely degrade Applications will be evaluated by an expert panel based on technical innovation and commercial viability. Winners will receive an expenses-paid trip to RadTech 2025 in Detroit, MI, where they will present their work to the RadTech community. Additional prizes may be granted for exceptional contributions.   • U.S. Congressman Bill Foster representing the 11th Congressional District of Illinois, met with RadTech, the non-profit for ultraviolet and electron beam technologies, and PAMA, the Photopolymer Additive Manufacturing Alliance, to discuss opportunities for more efficient regulatory review of photopolymer materials and opportunities for 3D printing/additive manufacturing. "We are honored that Dr. Foster met with us and delighted that he kindly shared his knowledge of our industry," says Michael Gould, President of RadTech, Rahn USA. Dr. Foster's scientific background and interest in enabling advanced U.S. manufacturing are vital to not only our industry, but also?to continued innovation and competitiveness in the U.S. economy." Dr. Foster is the only Ph.D. physicist and one of only two scientists in the U.S. Congress, bringing crucial scientific perspectives to discussions in Washington. He helped pass the CHIPS & Science Act, critical legislation to bolster our science infrastructure and promote American scientific and technological leadership. In addition, he is a leading supporter of STEM educational opportunities for students of all ages. Smart Material Solutions, Inc. SMS is a precision engineering company developing scalable nanofabrication methods, tooling, and materials for large-area nanopatterning. Thus far the group's "phantoms" have been utilized in 13 complex surgeries and by medical companies to test new stent graft designs.
