The Pan Asian Lawyers of San Diego and the San Diego legal community in general was well represented at the 2024 NAPABA Convention in Seattle. Leaders from across the nation were present and it was a wonderful opportunity to network and reconnect with colleagues! . There were many great programs, presentations, events, and receptions at the Convention including the 36th Anniversary Gala. . Congratulations to our very own past president Arlene Yang on getting sworn in as NAPABA Treasurer for the 2024-2025 bar year! Congratulations to FALSD’s Major Marty Lorenzo on winning the NAPABA Military and Veterans Service Award! We look forward to next year’s convention in Denver!

What a great conference! So happy to meet everyone, catch up, and find community. This conference has grown so large—it's amazing! The Pan Asian Lawyers of San Diego had an incredible time at the 48th annual Earl B. Gilliam Bar Association gala! . There were so many memorable things about this gala including an inspirational speech from California Secretary of State, Shirley Webster, Ph.D. . Congratulations to the scholarship winners and all those honored at the gala! . A special congratulations to the EBGBF for planning this magical event! We look forward to supporting you all next year!

On Saturday, the San Diego chapter of the Japanese American Citizens League, the nation’s oldest and largest Asian American/Pacific Islander civil rights organization, held its 95th anniversary gala. Thank you to producer/director and event co-chair, Lane Nishikawa, for the invitation and to the Japanese American Bar Association for sponsoring our table (which featured friends from Pan Asian Lawyers of San Diego and many of us with roots in Hawaii). Congratulations to JABA’s own Sala Kurtz for winning the Youth Leadership Award! It was a fantastic event. The theme for the evening was “Never Forget: Strength in Unity.” From the preview of Lane’s new documentary, “League of Dreams,” about the history of the JACL, to the speeches of Mayor Todd Gloria, Councilmember Kent Lee, and U.S. Representative Jill Tokuda from Hawaii’s Second Congressional District, there were reminders of how far we as a community and a country have come and how far we have yet to go.

Thank you to the Legal Aid Society of San Diego for inviting us to their Pro Bono Program Annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon! LASSD does so much for our community and it is always a special treat to share these memories with them. Thank you for all you do. And a special congratulations to our sister bar organization, Filipino American Lawyers of San Diego, for being awarded the Outstanding Service by a Bar Organization Award! .
