Palos School District 118 will host a breakfast for seniors on Friday, December 6 at Palos South Middle School, 13100 S. 82nd Ave. in Palos Park. The event is free to senior residents who live in District 118 and runs from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. The annual holiday breakfast offers a chance for the District to celebrate Palos 118's successes and a chance to connect with Palos-area seniors. Seniors will be treated to a complimentary breakfast, musical performance by the Palos South Middle School Band and Performing Arts Ensemble, and a small gift. District 118 will host a short-term substitute teacher training on Friday, November 15 at the Palos Central office, 8800 W. 119th St. in Palos Park, from 9 am to 1 pm. The Palos Educational Foundation's Laps for Literature fundraiser raised $4700 this year for our Palos 118 school media centers. Foundation president Sheila Pacholski presented checks to all three schools at the September board meeting. Funds raised by the Foundation provide financing for items that may be beyond the means of conventional public school funding. The next Foundation fundraiser will be their annual Trivia Night on February 1. https://lnkd.in/gZsd4Xy3

Niche.com recently released its 2025 rankings of the best public schools in Illinois with all three Palos 118 schools placing high in their annual list. Palos South came in at #59 out of 1377 middle schools, placing it in the top 5%. Both Palos East and West placed in the top 10% of elementary schools in Illinois at #141, and #169 out of 2370. District 118 received an overall grade of “A” in their rankings and D118 also ranked #83 out of 631 as one of the best places to teach in Illinois, and #97 out of 601 as one of the districts with the best teachers in the state.

Palos South 8th Grade Math teacher Mrs. Gina Marek?attended the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) conference in Chicago last month. She said that the 2-day conference was a fun professional development opportunity and that she left with new ideas she can use in her classroom. Great job, Mrs. Marek!?

We have some big news to kick off the week: Palos East Elementary has been named a 2024 National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education! The official announcement was made just after noon today, and Palos East joins an elite list of schools receiving this prestigious award. Kudos to the Palos East staff and administration! At the September board meeting, members of the Palos 118 Educational Foundation and Parent Faculty Association presented checks totaling $53,000 to pay for the installation of upgraded 70-inch interactive displays in the remainder of classrooms at Palos East and Palos West.
