Of course we're talking about #socialsecurity, a program that was set up almost 90 years ago by #FDR --which means someone who was born the year it was created would be collecting it right now -- and is scheduled to go bankrupt around 2033 when it's 98 years old. Even with the looming ??? , there's been no political appetite to amend or reform the program back into solvency. And it's one of the most universal part of your #1040 taxes each year too. As Jack Carlson illustrates below though, there's a growing movement of working age Americans who are growing increasingly frustrated with the largest #FICA tax, and we may see a real effort by the end of the decade to have opt-out programs. Moving to #Canada isn't quite as easy as driving north on I-5 or I-95 till you hit the big maple leaf sign, and it can actually be harder in some cases than moving in the other direction. That said, if you're thinking of setting up shop north of the 49th parallel, just know two additional points which Phil Hogan, CPA, CA, CPA ???? ???? didn't cover below: 1) The #IRS has long arms and your #tax obligations will follow you into His Majesty's Frosty Domain, #1040 and all! 2) Despite the many similarities, Canada is a very different business environment, and the graveyard is full of many Canadian subsidiaries which have leapt north to their peril, including high profile brands such as Target (2012-2015), Nordstrom (2014-2023), and Krispy Kreme (2001, prior to a drastic scaling down in operations). If you plan to move your business north of the border, having a sound business plan is essential. It also helps to have advice from a partner who knows the Canadian market like Palmetto Maple does. We appreciate Parry Headrick for sharing this news about Amazon moving to a five-day in-office workweek, but sadly we're not surprised. ?? One thing that every business owner needs to consider is that when you hire a company which requires such policies from workers who were otherwise productive during the last five years to do work for you, you are in fact paying a premium on their office policies. Consider the following: ??workers who have to travel for work have higher fuel, transit and insurance costs, #guaranteed! ??companies with occupied buildings need to pay increased utilities and amenities costs, #guranteed! ??staff who need to work five days in the office will either self-select out of the company for competitors with more flexible arrangements or demand higher pay for the inconvenience, reducing aggregate quality or driving up payroll which will be passed onto you, #guaranteed! Perhaps your firm requires a premium product with in-person support. It's almost #playoff time. This year we'll be covering the #Astros journey to the #postseason. Today the #Astros need to win only five more games to lock in the AL west. According to the model (see below) the Astros can secure their post-season perch by Sept 23rd against...you guessed it, the #Mariners! (Magic #: 13) Seattle's path to victory is more tenuous (sorry #datafam in Tableau HQ!), as it requires them to win at least 33% of their final 15 games and have the Astros lose every remaining game to win the AL West. Oh, and the model also suggest that the Texas Rangers Baseball Club edge them out for second in the end...
