The City of Colorado Springs is evaluating options to legally and safely allow e-bikes on public trails. Any shift in policy and procedure within the Ordinance or City Code will not automatically apply to the City properties for which Palmer holds a conservation easement. We are committed to working in partnership with the City through a formal evaluation process to ensure the most positive outcome for each individual property. For Palmer, we will consider impacts on natural and scenic open space, wildlife habitat, aesthetic, recreational, educational, historical, aquatic, ecological, and environmental features and values. Yesterday, we shared the exciting news that we purchased a 620-acre farm for the next big step in our decade-long, community-driven Bessemer Farmland Conservation Project. This exceptional farm will stay in the hands of a local family farmer, and it’s a huge win for the future of agriculture in Pueblo. We thought we’d share some photos of this highly productive farm. ??Celebrating a Farm-Sized Milestone?? In a groundbreaking step for Pueblo's future, Palmer Land Conservancy has purchased a 620-acre farm, one of the most productive farms in Pueblo County. This deal represents more than protecting a single irrigated farm—it’s a test case for an innovative approach to safeguard the county's most productive farmland. This weekend (Feb. 14-17) is the Great Backyard Bird Count. Participants spend time in their favorite places observing and counting as many birds as they can find and report their findings. This helps scientists better understand global bird populations. Theron and Jolene from the Palmer Pueblo office spotted 17 species (including Green-winged Teal, Hooded Merganser, and a mated pair of Red-tailed Hawks) on an hour-long walk along the icy Arkansas River. Despite the frigid temperatures, 110 people attended the screening of MIRASOL at the Grand Theater in Rocky Ford last night. It's always a pleasure to share the film with those who work the land—it is dedicated to them, after all!
