The Age of AI is here and it’s changing everything about work! As Matthew Abbott noted during our webinar yesterday (while using the language of AI ??) "Gone are the days when technical experts could sit in a dark room, heads down, and just code." AI is handling so much of the execution now—drafting, analyzing, automating. But the real value doesn’t come from the AI itself. It comes from YOU. In the webinar I hosted yesterday for hiring managers, we broke down the two critical skills that will define careers in this AI-driven world: 1?? Mastering AI in your specific role. Think of AI as an autopilot on a plane: it handles the repetitive tasks, keeps things running, and makes execution faster. But just like in a plane, when the weather gets choppy, it’s the pilot—the human—who steps in, refines the course, and makes the critical decisions. The same goes for AI: it can’t do all the thinking for you. At least not yet. Knowing how to use AI in your role—whether you’re in marketing, HR, or engineering—is the difference between being replaced and being indispensable. 2?? Communicating and collaborating like never before. This one’s huge. AI might speak the language of code, but it doesn’t speak “human.” That’s on you. As Matt noted, today’s technical talent needs to act more like sales engineers—bridging the gap between AI and people. You need to work across teams, align with customers, and make sure AI delivers on real business goals. Both Anisha Rassai of The Sourcery and Teresa Gilman from Paletter, Inc. also heavily emphasized that communication is no longer just a soft skill, it is THE skill that will set you apart as AI becomes more prevalent. Let’s talk implementation. AI agents, those tools that promise to take over the nitty-gritty tasks, aren’t fully here yet. For now, QA and manual oversight are still required. But not for long. The shift is coming fast, and the question is: are you ready to adapt? The companies, and people, who thrive in this new era will be the ones who combine strategic use of AI with exceptional communication and collaboration.
