Brazenly Peddling Genocide Rhetoric – When Do Words Become Crimes? Do you remember when Jesse Watters called Palestinians a “demographic threat” because of their birth rates, screeching: “Their birth rate is explosive…demographically, they’re a threat” (1)(2). Let’s be clear: with these words, Jesse Watters wasn’t just spreading hate—he was openly justifying ethnic cleansing. His ‘demographic threat’ framing mirrors Israel’s 2023 policy to ‘thin’ Gaza’s population via displacement (or genocide) (3). This isn’t political commentary. This is textbook dehumanization. Let’s spell out what this means under international law: Demanding forced population transfer = Advocating crimes against humanity. Watters’ rhetoric isn’t just vile—it’s a legal red flag. The UN Genocide Convention explicitly condemns acts intended to destroy a group “in whole or in part” (4). So, what happened to Watters? Was he apprehended for inciting genocide? Of course nothing happened. He still gets prime-time airtime to spew Nazi-era fearmongering about “radicalized” Palestinians. Meanwhile, students, journalists, and activists face arrests for protesting this genocide. Scores of Columbia students have been suspended or face disciplinary action for Gaza protests (5). Do you realise how familiar this pattern is? This is how genocide starts: dehumanise a people, call them a “threat,” then normalize their erasure (6). This ‘demographic threat’ lie fueled Rwanda’s 1994 genocide, where Tutsis were framed as ‘cockroaches’ to justify slaughter (7). And let’s not pretend this is isolated. Watters has called Palestinians “savages,” cheered their displacement, and dismissed Gaza’s 46,000+ dead as collateral. All while Netanyahu’s regime faces ICC arrest warrants for weaponizing starvation. Why does he get a platform while Palestinians get bombs? Why do Zionists like the ADL smear pro-Palestine voices as “anti-Semitic” to silence criticism but stay silent as Fox News hosts openly advocate ethnic cleansing? This hypocrisy is lethal.
