The University of Health Sciences (UHS) Syndicate, in its 85th meeting, approved new academic regulations for medical and dental students including implementation of a minimum 90% attendance requirement and a 70% passing mark criterion, as per the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PM&DC) notification. These regulations will take effect from the academic session 2024-25 and will apply exclusively to newly admitted MBBS and BDS first-year students. Students already enrolled in ongoing sessions will not be affected. Currently, the minimum attendance requirement in medical and dental colleges stands at 85%, while the passing marks threshold is 50%. #uhs #pmdc #medicine

Two new cases of wild poliovirus type 1 (WPV1) have been confirmed in Pakistan, with detections in Kambar, Sindh, and Mandi Bahauddin, Punjab, bringing the total cases in 2025 to five. This marks the third case in Sindh and the first in Punjab, following earlier cases in Badin, Larkana (Sindh), and Dera Ismail Khan (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa).

This indigenously developed satellite represents a significant achievement in Pakistan’s space technology journey and is poised to enhance the country’s ability to monitor and manage natural resources, predict and respond to natural disasters, support food security, and drive economic growth through informed decision-making and sustainable development. The EO-1 satellite offers substantial benefits across various sectors in Pakistan. Aisha Faisal, a Pharm-D student at the University of Sindh, is an internationally published author of four books. Her work has been featured in several international magazines and newspapers, including those from Turkey, the Philippines, and the United States. She represented Pakistan in an international poetry contest, securing the 7th position as the best international poetess and earning a feature in Blossoms International Magazine. Aisha received the Best Youngest Writer Award for her debut novel, “Heartless,” which she wrote at the age of 16. The government of Pakistan has signed a partnership agreement with a leading Chinese company to invest $350 million in the establishment of up to 3,000 Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations across the country — along the motorway connecting Peshawar to Karachi. The project will begin with an initial investment of $90 million to set up the stations, followed by an additional $250 million allocated for manufacturing by February 2025.

Pakistan’s National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has dismissed Director General Zulfiqar Ahmed after an investigation confirmed his degrees were forged. The Higher Education Commission (HEC) launched a probe at NADRA’s request and found that Zulfiqar Ahmed’s MBA degree bore the signature of an individual who was not the president of George Mason University at the time, Express News reported. Additionally, his BBA degree listed a college name that had changed by the time the certificate was issued.
