The PAISBOA Health Benefit Trust (HBT) is a consortium of independent schools, colleges, and universities within the state of Pennsylvania. The sole focus of the HBT is to provide high-quality health plans at affordable rates. Members enjoy savings, stability, and innovative programs through scale and collaboration. The PAISBOA HBT is a self-funded entity, organized as a Multiple Employer Welfare Association (MEWA). While the HBT was established by and exists for the benefit of its member institutions, it is governed by a dedicated Board of Trustees who are elected by the members to ensure that the needs of all of the enrolled participants are represented.

We celebrated and thanked our outgoing Trustees for all of their dedicated service to the Health Benefit Trust. Hal Davidow from William Penn Charter School, Martha Scache from Abington Friends, and Donald Kates, from Salus University, are leaving the Board after many years of extraordinary service to the PAISBOA flock. Don is transitioning to the role of Chief Financial and Compliance Officer for the HBT this fall.

We are delighted to announce the appointment of our new Chief Financial and Compliance Officer, Donald Kates! Don comes to the HBT with more than 30 years of strategic and operational success in higher education and has served as an active member of the PAISBOA HBT Board of Trustees for several years. Don shared, " I have always believed in the mission of the HBT, and I look forward to contributing to the strategic plan and working with all the member schools." Don will begin his new role at the end of August and will work closely with Joan Barone, our current CFO, to ensure a smooth transition. Joan will be retiring at the end of the plan year and we wish her all the best in the next phase of her life.
