Are you proposing or working on a public-facing project in the Susquehanna Riverlands Conservation Landscape that will improve habitat/trail connectivity, promote sustainable river access, benefit ecosystem health, or facilitate community collaboration? If you are, consider applying for a 2025 Mini-Grant! ?? Applications are due July 1, 2025. Organizations that have projects which may be a good fit for the Clean Water Fund AND the SRCL Mini-Grant Program can now more easily apply to both! Mini-Grant funding is financed by a grant from the Community Conservation Partnerships Program, Environmental Stewardship Fund, under the administration of the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Bureau of Recreation and Conservation. Last week, 17 dedicated staff members from PA state parks and the Pennsylvania Game Commission participated in a successful controlled burn at Jennings Environmental Education Center. In a groundbreaking achievement, this fire featured possibly the first all-female fire squad within Pennsylvania State Parks history. It consisted of seven women who played vital roles in executing the burn. This milestone highlights not only the dedication of the team but also the increasing representation of women in fire management roles. The burn spanned approximately 18 acres, including not only the prairie, but also a vital section of the prairie habitat expansion area. This marked the first time this area was burned, a significant step toward enhancing habitat quality for local flora and fauna, including the endangered massasauaga rattlesnake. #WomensHistoryMonth

We’re continuing our celebration of the women leading the way at DCNR — and next up is Claire Jantz, Deputy Secretary for Conservation and Technical Services! Claire has been with DCNR a little over a year and says, “It has been an incredible and humbling experience to learn about the impact of DCNR’s work for Pennsylvania’s communities, economy, wildlife, and ecosystems.” Her passion for conservation and dedication to making a difference shines through every day — and we’re lucky to have her on our team. #WomensHistoryMonth #WomenInLeadership
