Exciting news from Pacific Technology Cooperation Group (PTCG)! We've just concluded our 2024 Ke Ala Hou "The New Path" STEM Camp, and it was an incredible success! This five-day immersive program inspired middle and high school students across Hawaii, equipping them with cutting-edge skills in Data Science, Geospatial Applications, Machine Learning, Coding, Programming, and Aeronautics, with a special focus on basic drone technology. A huge thank you to our main sponsor, University of Hawaii Office of Innovation and Commercialization, for their invaluable support. We're also grateful to our outstanding support from the Defense Innovation Unit/National Security Innovation Network, and Pacific Intelligence Innovation Initiatives (P3I) Special shout out to our guest speaker, Mr. Chris Murphy from INDOPACOM Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) and former PACFLT Science and Technology Advisor. Chris did an outstanding job informing students about career pathways in technology and innovation. We're thrilled to highlight the exceptional contributions from our expert partners: - Chaminade University: Unlocking the power of Data Science, Geospatial Applications, and introducing the fascinating world of Machine Learning. -District 14, US Coast Guard: Bringing real-world excitement with Search and Rescue mission training (later incorporated into our Drone Competition!) and illuminating Aviation Career paths. -Magna Aeronautics: Igniting passion for technology through hands-on coding, programming, and foundational drone tech instruction. -All the Defense Industry Subject Matter Experts: Providing invaluable insights across various fields, enriching our students' learning experience. The camp concluded with an exciting Drone Competition, with James Campbell High School and Aiea High School taking top honors. Congratulations to all participants! Kapu Solutions LLC is proud to be a part of the Pacific Technology Cooperation Group's Ke Ala Hou - The New Path - STEM Camp on drones. The camp has just about wrapped up the theory, application, and safety portion of the program. Special thanks to Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) and Chaminade University of Honolulu for providing inspirational, foundational discussions with students from Admiral Arthur W Radford High School, Aiea High School, Henry J. Kaiser High School, Kalani High School, and Campbell High School. Tomorrow the students will learn about search and rescue from the U.S. Coast Guard before taking the controls and learning how to program, fly, and complete STXs. Special commendations go to mentors John Martin and Brian Hoole, whose dedication and expertise have been instrumental in building this exemplary program at Punahou. Great time at the Information Technology Sector Partnership Full Partnership Meeting last night at the Entrepreneurs Sandbox. The effort being led by the Chamber of Commerce Hawaii, Hawaii Department of Labor & Industrial Relations, and University of Hawaii Community Colleges presented an impressive progress report, workforce development updates, and an Education PD breakout. During the breakout session, Pacific Technology Cooperation Group contributed but more importantly was able to listen to great ideas from academia and industry on how we can help educators better prepare their students for joining the IT workforce.
