This event marks a major milestone for both Berkeley City College and the Peralta Community College District, as the final beam was set in place—marking not only a construction milestone, but a meaningful step forward in advancing the college’s vision and purpose. Happy to announce that we topped out half of our Harriman Sun Valley Hotel this last Thursday 03/06/2025 ON SCHEDULE💪🏻 Is not easy to spend months working under single digits and a record temperatures of -16°F, getting 15 to 20 inches of snow in a matter of a couple days and cold weather concrete rules but we made it to the top. Being the concrete Superintendent on this project has thought me more than a book worth of lessons and experiences. Last month I had the absolute privilege to compete in the ASC Region 6 & 7 competition in the Concrete Solutions division for the 3rd year in a row. I am so grateful for my experience at the ASC competitions and want to thank all of the many people involved, especially Lori Brown for helping to shape so many student experiences. As for results our team placed 1st🥇securing a back to back victory in Reno and three consecutive ASC 1st places, including the Region 3 competition in Chicago. I could not have accomplished this without my co-captain Jack Ritchie who has been integral to the success and leadership of this team. As well as my teammates Lily Katherine Brown, Alec Gibbs, E.I.T., Joey Massey and Tyler Stump. Additionally I’d like to recognize our alternates Sofia Cuevas and Jonathan Mintz. I am proud to share that in addition to the 1st place finish, I was named the MVP of the Concrete Solutions Open Division, an award I have always aspired to earn since starting in this competition as a Sophomore. This performance at the highest level could not be possible without extensive preparation, support, and coaching from industry professionals. I would first and foremost like to thank Pacific Structures, Inc. for their constant support of this team and the Cal Poly CM department. I would also like to thank Largo Concrete, Inc. for providing excellent presentation guidance and insight into the concrete industry. Finally, thank you Webcor Concrete for aiding our preparation and expanding our knowledge of many types of concrete construction techniques. Last but not least in this lengthy post, this entire competition would not have been possible without Sundt Construction who has made the Concrete Solutions competition one of the most exciting and challenging events across ASC. Thank you to the entire Sundt Team for your unwavering dedication towards the development of students in the industry year after year.
