Today, the Pacific Institute is proud to launch an ambitious new strategic plan through 2026. As climate change radically intensifies our water challenges, the strategy focuses on one thing: accelerating the global transformation to water resilience. See the plan here: https://lnkd.in/gWXYnHXV We’re also thrilled to announce a $1 million gift from our Board Chair Sally Liu to expand our global impact through 2030 by jumpstarting a fundraising effort. Read the announcement here: https://lnkd.in/gkd3Tban “The Pacific Institute is uniquely positioned to catalyze the transformation to water resilience,” said Liu. “I invite others to support this critical work at this critical time—by investing in the organization at the epicenter of water resilience solutions so deeply needed.” What’s new? First, we’re focused on four Impact Areas with outsized potential for accelerating action: ? Water Equity ? Water Efficiency & Reuse ? Nature-Based Solutions ? Corporate Water Stewardship Second, we are expanding efforts to accelerate implementation of water resilience solutions by companies, governments, frontline communities, and other levers of change. We’ll also increase our focus on unlocking systems-level opportunities to scale solutions by engaging with networks and informing and influencing policy. We’re so grateful to step into the next phase of the journey toward 2030 with hundreds of amazing collaborators, partners, philanthropists, and supporters. Hear from some of them, including Sanda Ojiambo of the United Nations Global Compact, John Matthews of Alliance for Global Water Adaptation (AGWA), Vedika Bhandarkar of Water.org, J. Carl Ganter of Circle of Blue, Tony Stayner, Sanjeev Chadha, Felicia Marcus & Todd Reeve of Bonneville Environmental Foundation (BEF) in this video. 关于我们
The Pacific Institute envisions a world in which society, the economy, and the environment have the water they need to thrive now and in the future. In pursuit of this vision, the Institute creates and advances solutions to the world’s most pressing water challenges, such as unsustainable water management and use; climate change; environmental degradation; food, fiber, and energy production for a growing population; and basic lack of access to fresh water and sanitation. Since 1987, the Pacific Institute has cut across traditional areas of study and actively collaborated with a diverse set of stakeholders, including policymakers, scientists, corporate leaders, international organizations such as the United Nations, advocacy groups, and local communities. This interdisciplinary and nonpartisan approach helps bring diverse interests together to forge effective real-world solutions.

On this International Women’s Day, we celebrate the incredible strength, resilience, and leadership of women across the globe. Access to clean, reliable water is essential for all, but its scarcity disproportionately affects women and girls, particularly in water-stressed communities. In?this blog post, the CEO Water Mandate explores how collective action in water stewardship can empower women, improve their health, and strengthen their communities. By addressing water insecurity, we’re breaking down barriers and opening up new opportunities for women to thrive. As a bonus, this is good for business! https://lnkd.in/gMVGwkrW The Women + Water Collaborative has grown since the blog was posted last year, see what is new here:?https://lnkd.in/gjC-gsZm #WomensDay2025 #WaterResilience #WaterStewardship #CollectiveAction #Sustainability #CEOWaterMandate WaterAid | United Nations Global Compact

According to the US Billion Dollar Weather and Climate Disasters database, the frequency of floods causing over $1 billion in damages has risen by 216% since the 1980s. The data is clear – the frequency and severity of catastrophic flooding events caused by climate change are rising throughout the US, and many rural communities are at high risk. For example, Eastern Kentucky has faced multiple catastrophic floods in recent years, causing widespread devastation and loss of life. The most recent of these events just occurred this month.? ? New Pacific Institute blog written by Researchers Becky Anderson and Dr. Shannon McNeeley breaks down the climate change footprint of catastrophic flooding in rural areas of the US with a special focus on Eastern Kentucky. In doing so, they highlight the negative effects of extreme flooding and the unique challenges faced by rural communities. Catastrophic flooding can disrupt rural access to water and sanitation systems in numerous ways through power & water outages, contamination of water sources, sewage overflows, and more. ? ? Leveraging rural communities’ existing strengths is essential for building #resilience and effectively preparing for severe weather and climate events.? ? An innovative Pacific Institute study estimates that the total stormwater runoff generated from Los Angeles County public school campuses is approximately 3.15 billion gallons (9,510 acre-feet) per year. Of this amount, about 2.04 billion gallons (6,190 acre-feet) per year could potentially be captured to augment water supplies.
