A few weeks ago, we shared a progress update on another phase of our #WholeChain project with plums. We’re sharing one of the inaugural case studies—which identified #FoodWaste hotspots in the potato #SupplyChain—today. The Whole Chain project is still going strong in multiple sectors, and we’ll have an update about this particular item soon. Read up on it now: https://loom.ly/zo_lZlg

We're working to cut food waste along the West Coast in half by 2030. A project of the Pacific Coast Collaborative.
关于我们
In the United States, 35% of food goes unsold or uneaten. It has enormous impacts on the environment – consuming cropland, freshwater, and other natural resources, while contributing approximately 4% of all U.S. greenhouse gas emissions. Food waste also affects the economy – new estimates put the cost of food waste in the Pacific Coast region alone at more than $65 billion, which is shouldered by businesses and consumers alike. And in 2020, COVID-19 brought the issue of food waste to national attention, as pandemic-related disruptions and bottlenecks caused spikes in the amount of loss and waste throughout the supply chain. The Pacific Coast Food Waste Commitment is a voluntary agreement between food businesses and governments along the West Coast who are working together to cut food waste in the region in half by 2030. Food businesses signing on to the agreement make a commitment to reduce waste within their operations; they're supported in these efforts by jurisdictions in California, Oregon, and Washington, plus Vancouver, British Columbia, along with nonprofit resource partners Cascadia Policy Solutions, ReFED, WRAP UK, and WWF. Businesses signing on to the effort include grocery retailers Albertsons Companies’ West Coast divisions (which includes Albertsons, Safeway, Vons, and Pavilions stores), The Kroger Co., New Seasons Market, PCC Markets, and Raleys, and manufacturers' association Food Northwest. Through collaboration across the food system, this effort is helping to scale food waste prevention efforts, share knowledge and best practices among agreement signatories, and attract more funders to the cause. The Pacific Coast Food Waste Commitment is a project of the Pacific Coast Collaborative, a public-private partnership between businesses and jurisdictions across the region to create the low-carbon economy of the future. The Pacific Coast of North America represents the world’s fifth-largest economy, with a combined GDP of $3 trillion.

A thank you to Food Tank for covering the historic progress made in #FoodWaste reduction in #GroceryRetail by our participating signatories over the last four years. As the end of 2024 approaches, we’re making preparations to gather another year’s worth of data. Stay tuned for even more data at the beginning of 2025! A huge thank you to PCFWC signatories New Seasons Market and Organically Grown Company for their collaboration to understand #FoodLossAndWaste along the value chain for stone fruits, plums specifically. This is project akin to prior Whole Chain projects conducted by fellow signatories to the PCFWC. What makes this project unique is a focus on a regional value chain and understanding how that differs from a national value chain. We look forward to sharing the findings in early 2025. #SupplyChain #FoodWaste

CEO; Circularity Expert; Speaker; Award-winning Author of "Planting a Seed"; Contributing Author to Proven Climate Solutions
We had such a great evening yesterday networking with sustainability professionals and discussing food waste reduction at all levels involving policies, collaborations, organizations, and actions in the United States, in the Pacific Northwest, Oregon, at our workplaces, and in our homes. We learned a lot from our attendees as well! They contributed their ideas and asked meaningful questions. Thank you to ImpactPDX and MeetGreen? for hosting, Morgan Garritson for moderating, and especially to my fellow panelists Elaine Blatt from Oregon Department of Environmental Quality and Tara Dalton from WWF! They are true experts and passionate advocates for this important climate solution. Learn more about the PCFWC and U.S. Food Waste Pact here: https://lnkd.in/gKdb6BXN https://lnkd.in/gDpUtypa Check out Elaine's fun and impactful consumer-facing campaign (watch for more to come)! https://lnkd.in/gQRcXj_U I spoke from a manufacturing perspective on the employee engagement pilots TripleWin Advisory has worked on with Bob's Red Mill and Kozy Shack. Take a look at the video we created that inspired and motivated employees to look for ways they could be involved in reducing food waste. https://lnkd.in/gKGAThHu https://lnkd.in/gDWhSuuU #sustainability #climateaction #projectdrawdown #foodwastereduction #employeeengagement #weareallstakeholders
