The new ABACUS label is raising the bar for the next generation of carbon projects. Check out the 5 big ideas behind the label. Congrats to Amazon's Jamey Mulligan and Kyle S Hemes. This work is an incredible testament to the change that can come from corporate leadership! Thank you for engaging the Pachama team in the consensus-based working group, particularly on one of our favorite topics: dynamic baselines. https://lnkd.in/ep4eztRe

What does nature need? Investment. Diego Saez Gil is on the ground in Riyadh this week at the FII Institute to share insights and exchange ideas on the innovations currently transforming the carbon market. We're inspired by this collective of investors, innovators, entrepreneurs and policymakers, all motivated to catalyze a sustainable future. Onwards!

What makes Brazil's natural climate so uniquely powerful as a climate solution? ?? With extensive areas of degraded land and faster growth rates for new forests, Brazil possesses inherent advantages that make it a prime candidate for large-scale reforestation efforts. ?? By combining science, community engagement, ecological restoration and innovative technology, we can revitalize ecosystems, create jobs, and address climate change. ????As Fernando Visser of re.green says, "Native species are the foundation of robust ecological restoration. But reforestation efforts with lasting impact must go beyond planting native trees. We believe in deep partnership with local communities, training seed collectors and nurseries to become essential contributors to the restoration process.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/eQdY9Qgi

Headed to Carbon Unbound West Coast this week? Don't miss the inimitable Stacy Kauk, P.Eng. and Diego Saez Gil as they talk about the future of reforestation. Their fireside chat will explore Isometric's new scientifically rigorous reforestation protocol and the next frontier of digital monitoring, reporting and verification (dMRV). Looking forward to an insightful session!

Join us at the Convention on Biodiversity in Colombia! ?? ?? ?? Our team members, Jo?o Daniel de Carvalho and Sophia Wood, will be on the ground in Cali this week, engaging with leading companies, NGOs, investors, and project proponents to discuss the critical importance of restoring nature and protecting biodiversity. Find us in the Blue Zone at #COP16Colombia and join us for a VERY special community listening session at #Bloom24. Together we can reverse the decline in biodiversity and restore our once vibrant natural ecosystems. #naturebasedsolutions #climatechange

Today we turn 6 years old! A heartfelt message from our Founder & CEO.
Happy Anniversary to Pachama!!! ?? ?? ?? On 10/18/2018, Pachama Inc. was incorporated as a legal entity, and our journey officially began—with a humble commitment to serving the world, but with a big ambition to have a meaningful impact on the mission of restoring nature and solving climate change. We have come a long way, achieving things we could only have dreamt of at the start, while also facing challenges we couldn't have foreseen. Six years later, our aspirations remain intact and the problem we're trying to solve is even more pressing. We now have more resources at our disposal, but the challenges we face continue to grow. With the community that surrounds us, we have unwavering conviction that together we can make a long-lasting impact on the planet. I'm truly grateful to everyone who has supported us thus far. The best is yet to come! PS: Photo from our very first offsite in Yosemite?just before launching. A rainbow welcomed us, which we took as an omen of good things to come... ??

Congratulations to Isometric on the launch of their new reforestation protocol! This DMRV-first approach will pave the way for faster, more accurate verification, an absolutely critical step in scaling reforestation projects globally. We were grateful to bring Pachama's DMRV expertise to shape this protocol. Amazing to see the collective progress against this critical mission to restore nature at scale with integrity.
Isometric today released a protocol for carbon dioxide removal (CDR) via reforestation for public consultation. This protocol brings Isometric’s scientific rigor and tech-enabled transparency to the reforestation industry. Now, buyers have a registry option that’s fast, easy to work with and incorporates the latest approaches to monitoring, reporting and verification (MRV). High quality, trustworthy credits are needed in as many carbon removal pathways as possible to avoid the worst effects of climate change. Trees are one of the most energy efficient forms of carbon removal and we need more of them to meet our climate goals. This is why reforestation is playing a key role in the CDR market today. The protocol offers three key innovations that solve long-standing issues in forestry based carbon removal: tech-first quantification, dynamic baselines and a new approach to leakage and life cycle assessments. This protocol was created in collaboration between Isometric’s in-house Science Team as well as external consultants from academia. The protocol was reviewed by industry leaders in the reforestation market: project developers such as MOMBAK and Arbonics; technology providers such as Pachama; carbon data platforms such as Renoster and Sylvera; and Isometric's 300-member Science Network. Isometric worked with these reforestation leaders to ensure the protocol reflects the best available science, offers flexibility for the operational variety of suppliers and includes the innovative technology solutions available in digital MRV. Scaling carbon removal—responsibly and fast—is key to combating climate change. This protocol raises the bar for quality and trust in reforestation by embedding Isometric’s innovative, technology-first approach in the core of Isometric’s reforestation credits. After a whirlwind week, our team has returned from #ClimateWeekNYC energized and hopeful (okay, maybe a little tired, too). Here's what we saw: ?? We’re beginning to value nature beyond carbon. While carbon remains an effective tool to drive financing, this year we saw more discussion around climate risk and the broader, interconnected social and ecological benefits of protecting and restoring nature #planetaryboundaries Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) ? Climate action comes with risk and carbon markets are no different. The next chapter of climate action must look more like understanding and transparently communicating risk rather than investing in only proven, perfect solutions. Tools to assess this risk are proliferating. ? Not every claim needs to be the same. There will be multiple, high-integrity distinct pathways for companies to act and make claims in the VCM, a natural state in a voluntary market.?We’ll keep watching Science Based Targets initiative, VCMI and ISO - International Organization for Standardization ??? Nature tech is core to the digital future of the VCM. ?Remote sensing-based technologies, in particular, are maturing rapidly and increasingly used in any informed investment in nature. ?? The rapid growth of AI will have a tremendous energy impact that’s not slowing down. The most advanced AI companies will be at the forefront of shaping the next generation of carbon projects as they plan for future needs. ?? It's time to listen. Communities from the Global South issued a call for strong rules and immediate finance through carbon markets. They sent a clear message: for far too long their voices have been ignored. The SBTi has the opportunity to shift this narrative, unlocking the flow of capital to communities most impacted by climate change. Lastly, there are so many incredibly bright, determined people who are working tirelessly to transition to a low-carbon economy and hundreds of solutions emerging and maturing to get us there. Now it's back to work, tackling the great challenge of our generation.
