🛤️ WORLKD TUNNEL DAY On December 4th, we celebrate World Tunnel Day, a date that allows us to reflect on the role these infrastructures have played in human development and global connectivity. At GRUPO PACADAR, we are proud to have contributed with over ✔️200,000 segments for 28,000 rings and a precast volume of 570,000 m³ to the construction of these works in various parts of the world, which facilitate transportation and communication, and drive economic progress and sustainability by reducing traffic congestion, lowering carbon emissions, and protecting the environment. Projects such as: 🚇 The tunnel for Line 5 of the Riyadh Metro in Saudi Arabia. 🚇 The tunnel under the Panama Canal for Line 3 of the Panama Metro. 🌊 The Thames Tideway Tunnel for the modernization of London's sewage system. 🚄 The Long Itchington Wood, Northolt West, and Atlas Road logistics tunnels for the high-speed rail project in the United Kingdom. Prioritising Mental Health PACADAR U.K. LIMITED We are proud to share that members of the Pacadar UK team have successfully completed Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training at our Isle of Grain site, becoming fully qualified MHFAiders! 🎉 The course was incredibly insightful, providing us with essential skills to support colleagues in need and signpost them to further resources where necessary. It also highlighted the importance of self-care, reminding us that looking after our own mental health is crucial before we can effectively help others. 📢 We are pleased to announce that GRUPO PACADAR has been included in catalogue of Spanish industrial capabilities for Big Science facilities. ✔️ This online catalogue has been developed by CDTI Innovación - Centro para el Desarrollo Tecnológico y la Innovación - the Spanish innovation agency under the Ministry of Science, Innovation, and Universities, with the aim of promoting the development of the Spanish Big Science research infrastructures. ✔️ It contains detailed information about more than 100 Spanish companies with experience as suppliers for large scientific facilities. HS2 NORTHOLT TUNNEL SEGMENT PRODUCTION COMPLETED Production of the concrete segments for HS2 (High Speed Two) Ltd’s 8km Northolt Tunnel has been completed. PACADAR U.K. LIMITED started production in April 2022 and in June completed the manufacture of 59,129 segments, which make up 8,447 tunnel rings – seven segments per ring. Each segment weighs 7 tonnes on average and 130 precast segments have been produced daily by the Kent-based factory. HS2’s London Tunnels contractor, Skanska Costain STRABAG Joint Venture (SCS), is constructing the Northolt Tunnel West which runs from West Ruislip to Green Park Way in Greenford. So far, the two TBMs building the twin-bore tunnel have travelled almost 6.4km and installed 6,550 rings. As part of HS2’s commitment to reduce the environmental impacts of construction, rail sidings were brought into use once space on site became available after the initial launch of the TBMs. The segments are now transported by rail from Kent to West Ruislip – with each train removing 56 lorries from the roads. 📣 PACADAR U.K. LIMITED has successfully completed the manufacturing of 60,000 segments, each weighing 7 tons, which will line the 8 km western section of the Northolt tunnel (S2 WEST) in London. This project, led by Skanska Costain STRABAG Joint Venture (SCS), is part of the network of tunnels and viaducts for the first high-speed train in Great Britain, known as HS2 (High Speed Two) Ltd. The project has presented significant challenges for PACADAR due to its technical complexity, stringent quality standards, environmental sustainability requirements, and CO2 consumption reduction targets. This has resulted in a project that is: ✔ Sustainable: The segments were transported by rail from PACADAR's factory in THAMESPORT, significantly contributing to the project's sustainability by reducing its carbon footprint. ✔ Diverse and Inclusive: The project team comprised individuals from 10 different nationalities, with 30% of the staff being women in positions of responsibility and decision-making. ✔ Job Generating and Talent Committed: This project has created nearly 200 jobs, some of which were facilitated through agreements that PACADAR maintains with the University of Greenwich.
