When Henry Abbott reached out to me over 3 years ago and said he thought the most compelling thing he'd seen in pro sports was what P3 was doing around athlete data and care, and that he wanted to write a book about it, i was humbled and a bit terrified. Last week I had the pleasure of joining Henry for the launch of his book Ballistic at MIT's Sloan Analytics Conference. The reception from the always smart and extremely curious Sloan crowd was unbelievable. In fact it continues to occupy my thoughts, and Ballistic has taken flight... I now have an answer to the weekly question of what can I read besides journal articles that distill what P3 has learned about athlete movement and care from our big data sets. The National Basketball Association (NBA) is launching a groundbreaking league-wide biomechanics initiative -a vision that we have been championing for years. We are grateful for the NBA’s commitment to this initiative and honored to play a central role in its execution. There's a lot of work ahead. The program's success will hinge on these factors: - Athlete trust and buy-in: Athletes must feel empowered, with each assessment delivering actionable insights that justify their effort and build trust. - Efficiency and usability for team staff: Motion capture is complex, and team staff are already managing heavy workloads. Education and seamless integration of this data into the NBA ecosystem are critical for both immediate and long-term impact. - Intervention: Testing must directly inform training interventions and decisions, translating insights into results. We're excited for these challenges and ready to get to work!

10 years ago to the day, Sports Illustrated published a feature on P3’s groundbreaking work in biomechanics, sparking a movement in sports science.
