It was great to participate in the Government Digital Sustainability Alliance (GDSA) workshop at Cap Gemini's offices in London. A very worthwhile day full of content, discussions and real progress on objectives, priorities and collaboration. Thanks to Joanna Davinson and Chris Howes for the government and sustainability perspectives, Tom Parry, Lydia Tabbron and Christine Collett for the GDSA organisation and momentum, Zahra Mansurali and Laurie Edwards for the arrangement and facilitation, plus all the excellent government and GDSA working group representatives who brainstormed and contributed on the day. Lots to follow up on and a comprehensive action plan to deliver for 2025. #sustainability #gdsa #greeninggovernment

A new challenge for our CEO in 2025! Ewen Anderson has been given the opportunity to chair the Scope 3 Working Group of the Government Digital Sustainability Alliance (GDSA). The DEFRA blog (link below) features feedback from Ewen and Gerry Hackett of Computacenter on why they accepted their roles of chair of the Scope 3 and Circular Economy working parties. With over 600,000 FTEs across 56 departments, agencies and government bodies in scope, the opportunity for improvements in sustainability is huge and strong alliances between the IT industry and customers have never been more important. #ITsustainability #circulareconomy #p2zero https://lnkd.in/eE8r_u_j

The intersection of #ecology and #economy has never been more relevant. Our latest P2zero blog post considers the models and the need for a new #sustainble "bottom line" that considers more than growth and profit. https://lnkd.in/e293HzEe

P2zero were treated to a sneak preview of the excellent work John Booth MBCS, CDCAP, CDCSP and Rachel Booth of Carbon3IT Ltd are doing setting up the National Data Centre Academy. Given the planned combination of hands-on practical courses and demo installations of state of the art data centre technology (with a strong focus on energy-efficiency and sustainability) I have no doubt it will become the go to venue for the industry. Glad to say I also passed the scrutiny test of joint heads of security Merry and Pippin after some rigorous examination. Very much look forward to delivering courses and events at the new facility when it is formally opened later this year. #sustainableIT #greenit #greenops #training

Very pleased that P2zero features in the Defra digital, data, technology and security blog welcoming all the new members of the UK Government Digital Sustainability Alliance (GDSA). The DEFRA blog post can be found here: https://bit.ly/3X4qdkN The GDSA is made up of companies who have committed time free of charge to help the government reduce the environmental impact of digital technology. We look forward to working in partnership with DEFRA and all these partner organisations to promote #sustainableit in the government and wider public sector. #sustainability #p2zero

Delighted with the feedback from Imperial (previously Imperial College London) on the recent P2zero sustainability project. Working with one of the world's top universities on their IT sustainability is a real privilege and our ongoing partnership will drive real savings in carbon emissions for staff and students. June '24 saw an unprecedented 13th straight month of "highest ever recorded temperatures" and 12 months exceeding the 1.5 degrees C above pre-industrial levels. You could say "unlucky 13" but there's no element of luck involved. This is the consequence of a lack of action and effective strategy, played out for short-term political and economic gain. https://lnkd.in/eBRmuV68

The Register last month carried out a worldwide survey of 2,869 IT professionals to profile attitudes to and progress on sustainable IT, with some alarming results. Just 39% of those surveyed considered IT sustainability to be a priority. Less than 50% had a focus on their environmental footprint or included sustainability metrics in their IT procurement. A shocking 25% reported they had no e-waste strategy and just 26% were considering "green data centre technology" as a way to reduce energy and emissions. It would seem there is a mismatch between the sustainability positioning of the major vendors and the "boots on the ground" who have operational and budget issues to resolve. But many of these initiatives cut costs AND carbon - and then there's the image of IT to consider. Just 33% were concerned about lack of sustainability affecting brand image or customer perception. Clearly we still have some progress to make on awareness and agency! Full details of the survey results can be found here: https://lnkd.in/e_v64Q6r
