Experience Senior Living chose OZ Architecture to design its Reserve at Lone Tree project. Situated in the heart of the Ridgegate development, urban conditions bound the site to the west, and open space with a regional park to the east. Along Havanna and Highnote, the ground floor of the 9-story independent living building is activated by transparency in the architecture, revealing the amenity spaces and activity within. The entry and middle connector bring the community together with multiple dining venues, including a lobby bar for casual happy hours and a steakhouse for upscale dinners. The indoor pool area can be opened to the outside to create an indoor/outdoor connection, and atop the independent living building is the sky lounge with spectacular views of the westerly mountains. The 5-story assisted living and memory support building holds the site's southern edge adjacent to open space and the Tall Tales Ranch. The Denver Housing Authority’s Sun Valley Block 3 project, designed by OZ Architecture, integrates affordable housing with community-focused spaces. Key features include 358 affordable units, structured parking, live-work spaces, a rooftop garden, and a food incubator to support local businesses. The development also includes age-restricted housing, townhomes, and an accessible riverfront park. The phased project ties the neighborhood to the river through a series of connections and emphasizes sustainability and neighborhood regeneration, with completion targeted for 2025. This week at AIA Colorado's GENERATE 2024 Practice + Design Conference in Keystone, OZ Principal Joe Anastasi highlighted the many benefits of mass timber as a building material, from its ecological and environmental advantages to its biophilic qualities and enhanced speed of construction. Mass timber has gained momentum nationwide and the mountains of Colorado are no exception. Sustainable materials like cross-laminated timber (CLT) and glue-laminated timber are being used to bring a modern wood aesthetic to various project types, including offices, multi-family/mixed-use, commercial, and more. This week at the AIA Colorado Design Conference in Keystone, Joe Anastasi, Principal at OZ will present on this topic and speak to Colorado's first CLT office buildings.
