Setup for SUSECON is complete and the Oxide Computer Company team doesn’t miss! Rack is great, graphics are on point, is that an OLED TV for the booth monitor?? The future of on-prem is here in Orlando all week long.

We're thrilled to sponsor #SUSECON25 in Orlando, March 10-14 where Bryan Cantrill will join a session on "Reimagining On-Prem Cloud: How Switch, Oxide, and SUSE Are Transforming Data Centers." Join us to learn how Oxide and SUSE collaborated with Switch to deliver an on-premises Cloud Computer that deploys in minutes instead of days or weeks and how the system is helping Switch simplify operations and accelerate innovation. Find out more about our session and about #SUSECON25 here: https://lnkd.in/gHN6pCvF

“Having my team spend weeks selecting which server SSDs to use won’t get me a single additional barrel of oil out of the ground” - underrated benefit of Oxide Computer Company selling a limited set of tried and tested hardware configurations.

Based on some Groundhog Day-esque conversations this past week, I felt the need to write down some of what we have been saying over the years at Oxide Computer Company on the need for transparency in hardware/software interfaces: https://lnkd.in/dgsaXyAn The Groundhog Day vibes are heightened by the fact that I feel like I am re-hearing the arguments against open source in the late 1990s and early 2000s -- and then repeating the counter-arguments against those. (No, a competitor isn't going to steal your chip because you happen to document its interfaces -- and no, documenting interfaces doesn't constitute a security concern!) I'm sure I missed a few arguments and counter-arguments, so folks that have suffered through this (either as a consumer of hardware or inside of a chip maker trying to fight the good fight), please let me know! Unsurprisingly, there is more to say on the topic; Adam Leventhal and I are going to pick this up for tomorrow's Oxide and Friends. The release of DeepSeek R1 really shook things up last week, in several dimensions: it's state-of-the-art, it has been trained with a focus on efficiency -- and it's open weights. This emphasis on efficiency and openness is something that we talked about with Simon Willison in our Predictions 2025 episode of Oxide and Friends (https://lnkd.in/gVr5AKSr), and it has many wondering about the implications. On today's episode, Adam Leventhal and I will be joined by Andy Hock and James Wang from wafer-scale innovator Cerebras Systems to talk about their experiences with DeepSeek R1 (it runs like a rocket!) -- and the future of AI disruption. This promises to be a wide-ranging and timely discussion; join us at 5p Pacific: https://lnkd.in/gbFFFfP5 Recorded, as always, and syndicated wherever you get podcasts: https://lnkd.in/gURCJMPw And if you want to play around with R1 on Cerebras (highly recommended!), you can create an account for free at https://cloud.cerebras.ai/.

Been eagerly awaiting instance resizing to release. It's already supported in the Oxide Terraform provider as well!
More CPU and memory for my personal blog? Don't mind if I do! With version 12, we now support instance resize, and it's FAST! Learn more about what's new in version 12- https://lnkd.in/g6jH7gC8
