Overland Park South Rotary Club

We had a very busy agenda yesterday morning as we transitioned from outgoing President Sara Lissauer to new President Ryan Wilkerson. From the net proceeds from the KC Crawfish Festival, we presented checks to our children’s charity recipients, FosterAdopt Connect & the Future of Hope Fund. We also presented Cheryl Schoenberg with a Paul Harris Fellow recognition as well as 1989 Awards to the family of former President Bob Musil and current member Ed Gilmore for their outstanding contributions to the club.

Our members having a good time at the Summer Music Series at Prairie Fire this past Thursday evening.

We enjoyed this morning’s presentation from Dustin Lewis, president of both Homefield KC & the Overland Park Rotary Club. His company just opened a $60 million indoor sports facility in KCK this spring joining their existing locations in Olathe & KCMO. He hopes kids can come into these spaces and feel inspired to get active in sports programs. Homefield also serves as a draw for travel teams nationwide.

Special thanks to Stan Weber for presenting this morning on all things KSU (plus a smidge of KU) including the new & improved Big 12 conference, NIL, and transfer portal.

Special thanks to Lindsay Hicks, president & CEO at Habitat for Humanity - Kansas City, for her presentation to our club Wednesday morning! We learned about her non profit’s mission, programs and even some of the local homeowners truly building new foundations in KC.

At our Wednesday morning meeting, past club president Andrew Comstock presented Rebecca Kidwell, president of Learn Science & Math Club with her Paul Harris Fellow recognition. Rebecca has been a terrific collaborator as our club has actively sponsored her Geeks for Kids program. The Paul Harris Fellow recognition acknowledges individuals who contribute, or who have contributions made in their name, of $1,000 to The Rotary Foundation.

Special thanks to two of our past club presidents (and favorites) Cindy Zishka Green & Theresa Jones for their presentation this morning on their recent global grant trip to Guatemala in April. They joined select club members from Districts 5710 & 5680 on this international trek with essential medical supplies to help promote disease prevention and treatment for the Patanatic region.

Special thanks to our friends at the Overland Park Rotary Club for inviting us to their Monday lunch meeting. We enjoyed listening to Kansas Lt. Governor David Toland’s presentation on the state’s tremendous private sector growth under the Kelly/Toland administration including the new Panasonic plant in De Soto scheduled to start production in January.
