  • Rounding out our (first) list of grant recipients for 2025, we are proud to announce the awarding of a $6,200 grant to TEAM OVERLAND from the Overland Expo Foundation for their Memorial Weekend Owyhee Canyonlands Adventure. The Memorial Weekend Owyhee Canyonlands Adventure offers an engaging outdoor adventure and serves as a vital platform for promoting mental wellness, community building, and a seamless reintegration process for our Veterans. Team Overland’s efforts are primarily focused on combating Veteran suicide, a mission they’ve made significant strides in. They recognize that Veterans struggling with mental health issues or addiction are at a higher risk of suicide. Their belief is strong: if these individuals have access to a trusted and positive support network, they are more likely to reach out for help. This philosophy is at the core of Team Overland’s mission, which they accomplish by getting people out to the woods and around a fire. They have a saying, “the fire facilitates,” and it does. The fire serves as a catalyst for organic connections, both with nature and the souls sharing the experience around the fire simply by sharing that space. This simple yet profound act of gathering around a fire sparks meaningful interactions and bonds. • We are proud to announce the awarding of a $6,000 grant to Tread Lightly! from the Overland Expo Foundation for a joint stewardship project. The project goal is to support public lands, forest roads, and trails in need of repair, restoration, or remediation. The project location will be near an Overland Expo event. Tread Lightly! is a non-profit organization that leads a national initiative to promote the responsible use of motorized vehicles when recreating outdoors. Their goal is to balance the off-road and off-highway vehicle (OHV) users’ need for adventure with the need to conserve the places where they ride and explore. The Tread Lightly! stewardship project gives back to the overland community by improving trail access, restoring damaged areas, and promoting responsible recreation practices. By maintaining and preserving these routes, overlanders can enjoy more sustainable adventures while ensuring these trails remain open for future exploration. Additionally, the project fosters a sense of community by encouraging volunteers to take an active role in conservation efforts, reinforcing the overland ethos of responsible travel and environmental For more information about Tread Lightly! and how you can “Do Your Part” visit treadlightly.org. #overlandexpofoundation #overlanding #trailcleanup #stewardship #outdoors #nature #overlandresponsibly #treadlightly

  • We are proud to announce the awarding of a $7,500 grant to Mind Over Land from the Overland Expo Foundation for their Trips for Veterans. These trips will take veterans to trails and off-roading locations throughout the East Coast, offering a combination of off-roading adventures, camping, training on proper overlanding techniques, Tread Lightly principles, and community-building activities. Mind Over Land is a nonprofit organization (founded by Veterans for Veterans) dedicated to supporting veterans by providing therapeutic outdoor experiences through off-road camping trips. They say that they help Vets disconnect to reconnect with like-minded individuals who have been through similar situations. Their mission is to help veterans reconnect with nature, build community bonds, and find respite from the mental health challenges they may face after their service. Mind Over Land not only supports veterans but also significantly contributes to the overland community by promoting responsible and sustainable off-roading practices. Their trips emphasize the Tread Lightly principles, ensuring that every participant understands the importance of minimizing their environmental impact while exploring and enjoying public lands. This commitment is integrated into every trip, where veterans receive hands-on training and education about preserving the trails and respecting natural habitats. • We are proud to announce the awarding of a $1,244 grant to Friends of Ironwood Forest from the Overland Expo Foundation for their Stop the Stink(net)! project. The project addresses the developing catastrophe that is silently spreading across the southwestern U.S. Stinknet, an invasive plant from South Africa, is aggressively moving through southern California, central Arizona, and the Sonoran borderlands of Mexico, and it has been recently found in Nevada. Stinknet degrades habitat for wildlife, is a human health hazard, and its dried foliage is highly flammable. This project will reach out to overlanders, offer education about stinknet, alert them to its human health hazards and propensity to spread via contact with vehicles, and ask them to enlist in the efforts to report and combat the spread of stinknet. The effort badly needs observers in the public lands, where far fewer residents go, to track the spread of stinknet and this project mobilizes overlanders to observe, report, and join the fight. For more information about Friends of Ironwood Forest and how you can help Stop the Stink(net)! visit their website: ironwoodforest.org #overlandexpofoundation #overlandresponsibly #ironwoodforestnationalmonument #ironwoodforestfriends #nature #outdoors #preservation

  • We are proud to announce the awarding of a $10,000 grant to the National Forest Foundation from the Overland Expo Foundation for their Navigate Responsibly: Motorized Use Education on the Coconino National Forest. The National Forest Foundation (NFF), in partnership with the Flagstaff Ranger District (FRD), aims to improve visitor navigation and environmental protection efforts within the Coconino National Forest. With nearly 5 million annual users the Coconino National Forest is the fifth busiest National Forest in the country. The NFF and FRD’s Motorized Use Education project involves installing new signage with more direct verbiage, clear instructions, and a QR code for visitors to download the current Motor Vehicle Use Map. Signs will be strategically placed along corridors off U.S. highways and busy recreation corridors, targeting the most heavily used areas. The goal is to get information at most entrances to the National Forest, especially where visitors transition from pavement to Forest roads. Accessible and distinct signage will help visitors make informed decisions about where to drive, thereby protecting wildlife, watersheds, and forest integrity. The installation of new signage will directly benefit the forest environment and enhance the overall visitor experience by promoting responsible motor vehicle use. For more information about The National Forest Foundation and their mission to care for these treasured landscapes visit their website: www.nationalforests.org. #overlandexpofoundation #nationforestfoundation #nationalforest #outdoors #nature #overlandresponsibly
