What started as a small 56-bed hospital has grown into a 349-bed medical center, serving the region with expert care and a heart for the community. Big news! After 10 years at Overlake and nearly 40 years in healthcare, J. Michael (Mike) Marsh is announcing his retirement as president & CEO. Jon Duarte, chief strategy officer, has been named the next president and CEO of Overlake and CEO of MultiCare’s new North Puget Sound Region. “Mike has guided Overlake with distinction through some of the most pivotal moments in the organization’s history,” says Jason Thompson, chairperson of the Overlake Board. ?? Celebrate our heart heroes! Meet David Nelson, MD! ?? Growing up around medicine, Dr. Nelson was inspired to pursue a career in surgery and critical care. Cardiothoracic surgery lets him combine both—performing procedures and caring for patients afterward. His approach aligns with Overlake's commitment to personalized care. He enjoys getting to know his patients, caring for them throughout their hospital stay, and staying connected after discharge. Please join us in welcoming Christine Chiu, MD, a general endocrinologist with expertise in diabetes, thyroid disease, osteoporosis, and more. A graduate of the University of Arizona College of Medicine and inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society, Dr. Chiu is dedicated to creating personalized treatment plans that fit each patient’s unique needs. After training at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, she relocated to the Pacific Northwest. Outside of medicine, she enjoys hiking, yoga, traveling, and exploring new restaurants. With beginnings in 1968, National Hispanic Heritage Month takes place annually from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15, marking an opportunity to focus upon, reflect and celebrate the abundant contributions—past, present and have yet to be made—and diverse cultures that encompass the many vibrant Hispanic and Latino communities in the United States.
