Great turn out full of purpose and compassion. Employer lunch and learn untapped workforce. One of our residents shared her lived experience with someone giving her a second chance. She is now in general management. Employers shared their insight and asked some great questions. I’m excited to see more employers give the untapped workforce a chance.

Overcomers on the Move is excited to participate in the Employer Round Table Lunch and Learn. The second phase of our recovery housing program is the Breakthrough Phase where the residents overcome barriers to employment and learn how to navigate a schedule with work and self-care. Often times they experience an insurmountable amount of rejection because of gaps in employment. What we have discovered in this process is the non-traditional employee is loyal, dedicated, and hard working. They go above and beyond for employers that give them a chance. Currently a few of our residents have climbed the ladder of success and one of our peers is in training for management, and another exceeded her quota and was recognized as employee of the week. These are just few examples of why it’s so important to employ the non-traditional worker. Overcomers on the Move held orientation for their second 12 week peer internship program. The graduates from the first group are offering peer to peer coaching to the new participants. I’m so grateful for peer-led programs and behavioral health agencies that honor peers. If you’d like to to share about your agency and how you incorporate peer support pm me.

Talk about about putting that work in. Look at this astounding accomplishment from our peer interns. They completed the first 12 week internship class. We learned how to navigate Ebased Academy(HELP) and work through the modules, foster recovery capital, and overcome personal insecurities as they rise. We are so very proud of the diligence and devotion of the participants. Two of the peers have been offered employment with community partners, one has completed his 40 hour training, and the rest on are well on their way to signing up for the 40 hour training. We are improving the peer workforce one peer at a time.

What an honor and privilege to host our Myth Buster theme focusing on mental health awareness and peer support at the Ohio Reformatory for Women. A big shout out to the panelist and providers that helped this day possible. We can not thank you enough. Look at that sign the peers made at ORW. Absolutely phenomenal.

Meet Overcomers Peer Advisory Board. Such a powerhouse of experience, strength, and knowledge. Recovery Capital and peer support are at the core of overcoming barriers to Mental Health Wellness, Substance Use Disorder treatment, trauma informed care, and reducing recidivism. At our board meetings we are developing languange and material surrounding Recovery Capital. We are preparing for the Resume Writing, Job Interviews, and Professional Demeanor Breakout Sessionat at the PRS Community & Job Fair Event May 22nd 10-3 at the Columbus Library on S. Grant. Let's begin to educate peers about their recovery capital. We do it all the time without knowing we are.
