Reporting in after returning from Université Laval’s first Digital AI Bootcamp (and a new announcement)! Julien Marceaux, our Director of Content & Immersive Learning, led two packed lectures on the pedagogical integration of immersive tech into training, along with hands-on sessions to explore this in action in StellarX. Jérémie Houle-Fuentes took part in the Exhibitor Forum and shared some demos of StellarX, gauging excitement around VR-based learning. Led by Professor Nadia Naffi Ph.D., the two-day event focused on hands-on applications of emerging educational technologies and AI. Université Laval continues to be a close partner with OVA, with the university investing in an XR Lab equipped with StellarX for the university community to use. We are honoured to be a part of the academic environment, where StellarX continues to assist researchers in their work and stretch the many ways in which it can be applied. Jérémie Houle-Fuentes a participé au Forum des exposants, où il a présenté des démonstrations de StellarX, suscitant beaucoup d’enthousiasme pour l’apprentissage en VR. Dirigé par la Professeure Nadia Naffi Ph.D., cet événement de deux jours a mis l’accent sur les applications pratiques des technologies éducatives émergentes et de l’intelligence artificielle. L’Université Laval demeure un partenaire privilégié d’OVA, investissant notamment dans un Lab XR équipé de StellarX, accessible à toute la communauté universitaire. Today we can proudly share with you that OVA has joined Confiance IA’s consortium that will help in securing reliable innovation in AI for high-risk operational and #training environments. Confiance IA and OVA share a common vision: to foster the co-development of non-competitive methodologies and tools in order to provide concrete solutions to the challenges associated with the operationalization of AI. These non-competitive frameworks will help contribute to establishing new technology and best practices, ensuring #AI can be deployed reliably in environments like #defence and #aerospace. Never thought I’d say this, but OVA is turning 11. Keeping myself busy, you know the deal of being an?entrepr?hnair. Just like DMX would put it: “My ups, and downs, my slips, my falls, My trials and tribulations, my heart, my balls.” —DMX,?WHO WE BE I remember starting OVA with a crystal-clear vision of success. I watched?The Social Network, got hyped, and immediately went to Bureau en Gros (Staples) to buy $40 worth of Sharpies. I started scribbling all over glass surfaces, only to realize—yeah, those markers were?not?made for that. Then, I watched?The Lost Interview?with Steve Jobs (https://lnkd.in/ekRG_R-4), and that was it, I was on a mission. I was going to build an incredible environment, hire the smartest people, and together, we’d create something beautiful:?StellarX. But of course, reality doesn’t unfold like a Guy Kawasaki keynote or a Hollywood script. Fast forward 11 years—countless?DMX, Nas, IAM, FF, Biggie?tracks played while working on strategy, RFPs, and late-night grind sessions. I pitched to?hundreds?of VCs, shook?thousands?of hands (CES alone accounted for a few hundred), sat through?dozens?of video calls, and replied to at least?five?emails (haha). And you know what??It was all worth it. Best adventure of my life. Every day, I get to work with amazing people, building the future. Whatever the stress, the sleepless nights, the work-life balance struggles (nah nobody struggles with that)—OVA is?here to stay. And that makes it all worthwhile. Now, we’re working with?the Canadian Space Agency, the Royal Canadian Air Force, the Royal Canadian Navy, ArcelorMittal, Pfizer… StellarX is being downloaded and used all around the world. This journey has often felt like a?Han Solo?kind of mission, an?“All Eyez On Me”?moment. But after 11 years, one thing I can say for sure:?none of this would have been possible without the support OVA has received—both from the inside and the outside. What if your most critical training was also the hardest to practice safely? That was the challenge Hydro-Québec faced in training high-voltage line workers. With real-world hazards too dangerous to replicate, they needed a better way to prepare their teams for the unpredictable nature of high-voltage equipment. In collaboration with LCI LX (previously Ellicom), OVA partnered with Hydro-Québec to create an immersive VR safety training program in StellarX that simulates real-life scenarios in a safe, controlled environment. What we did: ? Developed multiple interactive training simulations that replicate the environment technicians work in ? Recreated complex procedures like measuring wire voltage with different tools ? Created results with visual and haptic feedback for trainees ?Enable instructors to change environmental conditions in real-time to test trainees under pressure The impact: ?? Higher retention of safety protocols ?? Fewer injuries reported after six months This project was awarded Gold in Best Advance in Gaming or Simulation Technology by the Brandon Hall Group in 2018. StellarX has advanced since then, advancing the results it provides businesses as well. What do you think is the most important outcome of immersive training? --------------- Souvent, la formation la plus critique est aussi la plus difficile à implémenter de fa?on sécuritaire. Comment les préparer à la nature imprévisible de l’équipement à haute tension, dans des conditions souvent trop dangereuses pour être reproduites? Moins de blessures signalées après 6 mois Ce projet a d’ailleurs remporté l’Or dans la catégorie Best Advance in Gaming or Simulation Technology par le Brandon Hall Group en 2018.
