I know I speak for many when I say that the past few weeks have felt longer than many months. And yet—the dominant emotion I’m feeling right now? Optimism. After seeing what we built at OutVote HQ in just 200 days, I know one thing for sure: young LGBTQIA+ voters are ready to show up, organize, and shape the future. In 2024, OutVote funded 12 OutVote Fellows and 70 OutVote Ambassadors to conduct on-the-ground civic engagement work to mobilize young LGBTQIA+ voters ahead of November 5. This team worked HARD — registering hundreds and mobilizing thousands in the key states of Arizona, Pennsylvania, and around the country. OutVote did not do this work alone. We were honored to have worked in partnership with 20+ organizations including the Human Rights Campaign, the National LGBTQ Task Force, New Voters, 18by Vote, and Point Foundation, among many others. I am so grateful to have had the chance to work with Ranen Miao to turn this idea into reality over the past year and to work alongside our incredible Executive Board members Armando Montero Camille E. Joie L. Jenna Smith. This team is the reason I am still inspired to work to build a renewed culture of civic engagement in the Gen-Z LGBTQIA+ community. None of our work this cycle would be possible without the help from mentors and friends whose advice and support was critical in helping this project take shape: Jorge Valencia Nina Harris Jaclyn Corin Kevin Jennings Anim Steel Richard Burns Lyle Matthew Kan Jahnavi Rao Orlando Gonzales Howard Pulchin Ava Mateo Jackson J. B. and so many more — you know who you are. A special thank you to our fiscal sponsor Future Coalition Corryn Freeman Esther Pang Ema Angulo-Rodríguez Khadija Joss: your guidance and support made the difference! 2025 marks the beginning of our movement to build a sustained culture of civic engagement in the young LGBTQIA+ community, not the end. I’m optimistic that the outcome will be transformative. Check out our website to view our 2024 Annual Impact Report and sign up for email updates to stay connected with OutVote as we head into this new chapter together. We know there is more work to do — I hope you’ll join us in our renewed vision for a more participatory and engaged democratic system.

I did what no student should ever do: skipped the entire first week of school to go to Vegas... Clarification: I was in town to work! Ranen Miao and I were lucky to represent OutVote HQ at National LGBTQ Task Force's annual Creating Change conference as speakers focused on the inclusion and empowerment of young queer LGBTQIA+ voters in the ever-changing American landscape. We discussed our experiences as young people engaging with various aspects of the democratic process and civic participation, both through OutVote’s efforts and grassroots activism. We also got to talk about the importance of branding and partnerships and OutVote's specific approach to authentic relationship/community building. As Gen-Zs, we recognize the power of authenticity both in storytelling and bridge-building, and we emphasized the importance of honesty in the work we do and how we connect with others. We were lucky to have a group of diverse, engaged, and interested listeners who used the space to build networks of collaboration among one another; in all, the experience was rewarding and beneficial for both OutVote and our attendees. The conference was also filled with plenty of educational sessions, ranging from institutes surrounding solidarity within the API community to LGBTQIA+ healthcare under a volatile presidential administration. In all, there were plenty of moments to teach and be taught by some of our community's brightest and most gifted minds. This conference allowed OutVote to more deeply embed itself within the LGBTQIA+ community and we look forward to building more relationships with other queer people across the country! #OutVote #speaker #conference

This year, Point Alumni Isaac James and Ranen Miao partnered with Point Scholars Jo Lew and Jenna Smith to launch OutVote HQ, a nonprofit dedicated to empowering young LGBTQ voters. OutVote and Point collaborated during an Out in Higher Ed Week panel in October for a conversation about uniting to fight for LGBTQ equality in modern America hosted by Point Alum and town manager of Provincetown, MA, Alex Morse. Today, on Trans Day of Remembrance (#TDoR), the National LGBTQ Task Force honors the lives of our transgender siblings who have been tragically taken from us. ????? This solemn day reminds us of the ongoing epidemic of violence against the transgender community and underscores the urgent need to combat transphobia in all its forms. ?? We invite you to join us in remembering and uplifting those we have lost by #SayingTheirNames in the comments. Every name represents a cherished life, a story that matters, and a call to action for justice. #TDoR is about more than mourning; it’s a time to recognize the incredible resilience of the trans community and reflect on our collective responsibility to create a world where transgender lives are celebrated, affirmed, and protected. It’s a moment to honor the progress we’ve made while committing ourselves to the fight ahead for true equality. Let’s use today to advocate for change—through allyship, education, and pushing for inclusive policies that affirm the dignity of every transgender individual. Together, we can work toward a future where no one lives in fear, and everyone has the freedom to live authentically. ?? On this day, and every day, we stand united for justice, love, and liberation. #TransDayOfRemembrance [Image description: An image carousel of 4 slides. The first slide reads “Trans Day of Remembrance.” The following 3 slides list the names of all fallen Trans and GNC folx within the last year.]
