Visionary farmers like Lane Zirlott embody an entrepreneurial spirit that Outstanding in the Field has been celebrating since 1999.?His family has been working on shrimping and fishing boats for five generations, but he decided to shift his focus to trying to grow the world’s best oyster. Today Murder Point Oysters are flown to chefs all around the country from Bayou La Batre, Alabama, which used to be an unlikely provenance for restaurant grade oysters. We took an intrepid group of gourmets to Bayou La Batre, nearly 30 miles outside Mobile, Al off a sand road surrounded by Loblolly Pines and wetlands to taste them with Zirlott, himself. Glasses of sparkling wine in hand, we watched the hands that nurture Lane’s babies every day, pull them from the water, skillfully release them from their shells and proudly place them on a bed of ice as fast as we could grab them. Straight, no chaser, a pure an expression of merrier and hard work. We also enjoyed the buttery bivalves lightly grilled by Chef Arwen Rice from Red or White Mobile, and topped with breadcrumbs and a bright squeeze of Meyer lemon. The James Beard Award?semifinalist for the “Best Chef: South” delivered a truly spectacular meal. We’ll be back to visit both. Find these oysters via the link below: https://lnkd.in/dPDSAe5f

I've been wanting to incorporate more stories about sustainability, local farms and producers, and talented chefs into my photography and this Outstanding in the Field dinner at Barrier Island Oyster Company was the perfect opportunity. Grateful to have captured such a meaningful evening with incredible people passionate about food and the environment. Special thanks to Barrier Island Oyster Co., Holy City Hogs, Graft Wine, and all the amazing collaborators for their inspiring work and dedication to the Lowcountry community! I am not sure how frequently I will post, but feel free to subscribe while I figure out this whole Substack thing ?? #Sustainability #LocalFarms #Photography #LowcountryLife #Charleston

Bridges are not just swift transportation for people on the go. A bridge can also be a place to slow down, connect and take in the view. The Dallas skyline and a bridge table for 600 — the extraordinary setting for a recent Outstanding in the Field private event. Guests arrived to a welcome reception with live music before finding their seats at the (very long) table, set along a pedestrian bridge downtown. As the colors faded and the city’s lights blinked on, the glow of creative candle centerpieces and twinkle lights suspended above added sparkle to the evening. Guests grabbed the blankets draped on the backs of their chairs to wrap around their festive attire. As everybody left, the cozy party favors were playful capes slung over their shoulders, a lasting memory of the gathering, gone without a trace by the time the city sprung to life the next morning. #customevents?#privateevents?#eventproducer?#longtable?#dallastx
