The Unpredictable Life of a Founder... This week has been a perfect reminder that life as a founder is anything but predictable. On Tuesday, I found myself ankle-deep in a very unexpected situation—literally! An overflowing toilet at The Omlie House, the Victorian house we converted into our home office, had me scrambling to problem solve (thankfully, it was clean water!). Fast forward to Thursday, and I had the incredible opportunity to meet my entrepreneurial role model, Sara Blakely, the visionary inventor behind Spanx and Sneex. (Not visible in this picture are my sneex that Sara immediately noticed and commented on!) Many years ago, I heard Sara share her moto, "You don't have to be serious to be taken seriously," and it taught me that the absolute best leader I could be is my silly self. These two moments encapsulate the highs and lows of entrepreneurship. One day, you're dealing with unexpected challenges; the next, you're inspired by legends. It's a journey that's not always glamorous, but it's always worth it. We are extremely proud of book 3. I was inspired by Sarah Burlew and the amazing business she has built Omlie Consulting The name Omlie is inspired by Phoebe Omlie, a pioneer in American aviation. Phoebe was the first woman to receive an airplane mechanic’s license, the first licensed female transport pilot, and the first woman to be appointed to a federal position in the aviation field, in 1933. She was referred to by Eleanor Roosevelt as a woman “Whose achievements make it safe to say the world is progressing.” Just like Phoebe, Sarah wouldn’t have been able to achieve her dream if it wasn’t for the help of her extremely talented and supportive team. Cheers to finding your wings. Sarah, thank you for being a constant source of joy and inspiration to everyone around you. It was so amazing being back at the school that played such a pivotal role in my growth as a student and even more so as a human being. Benchmark School It was an honor to speak to the students about my journey with dyslexia and how it inspired me to create Tot The Talented Otter. I got a chance to thank all of the amazing teachers for the role they played in my life and that is something I will cherish forever. I also got to let the kids know their learning difference can be the key to unlocking their Super Powers! What an amazing experience. I am very thankful for it.
