A lot went down at this year’s United Nations #CSW69. Here are our takeaways: ???? Our stories on our terms. LBTI women shared compelling stories of their experiences at the #UN in spaces with those who opposed us. At one point during an event, opposition conservatives were visibly moved by the stories of our experiences. This is how we change minds and safeguard our rights at the highest levels. ???? We didn’t just hold the line - we made progress. For the first time, the term “Gender-Based Violence” was included in the CSW Political Declaration, an internationally recognized policy document on gender equality, marking a milestone in official UN documentation. Intersex advocacy received direct support from the UN Secretary General, who committed to fully supporting future initiatives. ???? Nurturing emerging leaders. Young feminist LGBTIQ advocates (many of whom we’ve nurtured through our programs) led key conversations in UN spaces. Their expertise is no longer emerging; it’s recognized, institutional, and actively shaping policy to ensure no one is left behind. ???? Governments are advancing a progressive agenda because we fought for it. LGBTIQ voices are increasingly sought after for both our expertise and our broader contributions to UN work, with governments and UN leadership placing increasing trust in us to advise them on our issues. Progress happens when we show up - strategically and relentlessly. Support this work: https://lnkd.in/guQHUtTc Photos from our Lesbians* of The World Unite! Demonstration by D.J.
