Honored to have been among the powerful women at Siemens's "Women Shaping the Digital Enterprise" event last week. There was lots of technical talk about the ways in which Siemens’s product offerings are supporting digitization. But just as impactful were the stories and insights from women about what they have done to advance their careers. After fervently writing down a ton of quotes so that I didn’t forget, I wanted to share some of my favorite insights from the day. Before I get started, I would be remiss not to mention, these things are not always possible for people in marginalized communities. I know there will be people reading this and thinking, "it's not that easy." And they're right… Here we go: ??Be in a role that makes you look good, not someone else.?You can learn a lot in a supporting role- like an executive assistant, or administrative function. But try to put a limit to the time you spend in a role like that. You want your efforts to going toward advancing your own career. ? Develop a body of work. You can build a powerful reputation / personal brand by taking the “ugly” projects and making something out of them. People will notice. Your achievements are unequivocally your own and will follow you anywhere. ? When deciding where to allocate your time, focus on the critical few. Find those few things that yield the most impact. ? Growth where everyone wins is possible. If you're leading change at your organization, try to find a way to make it a win for everyone involved. ? Be yourself and let others adjust. Don’t compromise your identity to match what you see around you. ? Lasting innovation?comes from solutions that bring together diverse viewpoints. ?????
