OUTbio Seattle is out in the community and volunteering at two events this month—and we hope you’ll join us! We all need strength and unity now more than ever. And strength comes from within. Here are two opportunities to support organizations advancing LGBTQIA+ causes in the PNW: Our friends at Gender Justice League are seeking volunteers for Trans Advocacy Day on February 17th. Every year, they help 2STGD people and allies reach the state capitol in Olympia to organize and advocate for the policy changes that?are vital for our community’s well-being and safety. Learn how to get involved?? https://lnkd.in/gr8wAAbr The Pride Foundation is seeking reviewers for their annual scholarship program. More than 60 different scholarships are open to all students who meet Pride Foundation’s fundamental criteria of LGBTQ+ students in the Northwest. Roll up your sleeves and help the next generation of LGBTQIA+ scholars reach their dreams?? https://lnkd.in/gtt7tQyM It’s about today, it’s about tomorrow, it’s about showing up for each other. The action we take now—together—will be felt for years to come.

We are deeply concerned about the recent executive order that threatens the rights, safety, and dignity of transgender individuals–our colleagues, our friends, and our family. We believe this action is a significant step backward in our ongoing fight for equality and inclusion in our society. Our transgender community faces disproportionate levels of discrimination, violence, and barriers to accessing essential services. It is our responsibility to challenge policies that undermine their rights, and to work tirelessly to promote a culture of acceptance and support. We stand firmly in solidarity with our transgender community and pledge to advocate for comprehensive protections that affirm their identity and rights. We call upon you to join us in amplifying their voices and to support initiatives that foster equality in all facets of life—be it in the workplace, healthcare, or education. Together, we can create a society where all individuals, regardless of gender identity, can thrive without fear of discrimination. Here are some valuable resources for allies looking to support transgender individuals: Transgender Law Center: Focuses on legal resources and advocacy for transgender rights, with toolkits for allies. Human Rights Campaign (HRC): Offers guides on being an effective ally, including information on transgender issues and rights. https://www.hrc.org/ GLAAD: Provides resources for understanding gender identity and tips for advocacy. The Trevor Project: A crisis intervention and suicide prevention service for LGBTQ+ youth that provides resources and support for allies. Additionally, if you’re looking for local organizations to support: Gender Justice League: Focuses on elevating the rights of TwoSpirit, Trans, & Gender Diverse (2STGD) communities in Washington State and beyond through advocacy efforts, direct services, shared leadership development, and the creation of sacred Trans spaces. Lambert House LGBTQ+ Youth Community Center: A community center for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning youth here in Seattle, WA. Lambert House is the only social service agency in Seattle and King County, WA, dedicated solely to LGBTQ+ youth. Lavender Rights Project: Elevates the power, autonomy, and leadership of the Black intersex & gender diverse community through intersectional legal and social services. By utilizing these resources and supporting these organizations, allies can educate themselves, advocate effectively, and create a supportive environment for transgender individuals. At OUTbio Seattle, we will continue our mission and celebrate diversity as loudly and proudly as possible to ensure that all people have a safe place to contribute and advance their careers in meaningful ways.
