Our Places of Impact is a Community of Practice (CoP) aimed at providing a virtual collaborative experience for community development stakeholders to share knowledge and practices for collective impact and increase their understanding of targeted community revitalization principles, collective impact approaches, and ways to advance racial equity in their communities. Through participation in this CoP, communities can increase their impact, achieve their goals, and create positive change in their communities. This CoP will provide opportunities for participants to network, build relationships, and explore collaborations. This CoP was created to empower communities to undertake a collective impact and systems approach to revitalization and support the efforts of communities undertaking a coordinated systems approach to comprehensively transform neighborhoods and communities for the individuals that live in them. Our Places of Impact is a multi year initiative of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development working with communities under taking comprehensive place-based community revitalization work to highlight strategies and best practices. I am proud to be working with amazing community leaders like Silas Matchem Sr and Sandi Curd to tackle complex systems change work in communities. We are currently focusing on consensus and trust building. Thanks to everyone who attended the Our Places of Impact Community of Practice event yesterday, Facilitating Consensus in Communities! This was the first time using our new Peer-Led event format. ? ? In case you missed it, under our new event format participants are encouraged to share their insights and ask questions.?Yesterday’s event included a networking component and audience engagement activity following a panel discussion led three members of the Our Places of Impact Planning Committee: Silas Matchem, Sara Smallwood-Cocke, and Julius Austin, representing peer organizations from the States of Illinois, Oklahoma, and California. ? The engaging conversation?reiterated the importance of reaching all community members by creating the right conditions for everyone to have a seat at the table. Participants also grappled with strategies for being a successful communicator and having difficult conversations in their communities. ? ? This CoP event will give participants the chance to discuss and reflect on strategies for managing difficult conversations within your community-led initiatives. ? Note that no formal presentation will be given during the event. As a Community of Practice, the aim of this event is to create space for you as peers to share ideas, experiences, and best practices with each other and increase your knowledge and capabilities through these exchanges. We encourage you to actively participate during the event by: - Reflecting on your own experiences and expertise around this topic prior to the event - Contributing an answer or insight for a question that has been asked or discussion point, based on your experiences - Sharing an experience initiating difficult conversations and building consensus from your own work - Asking a thought-provoking question to one of our featured participants ? We have had tremendous interest in this event and registration is closed. Given this, it unfortunately won't be possible for every participant to have the opportunity to speak.
