NextEra Energy Resources (NEER) has commenced the state permitting process for two hybrid solar and storage projects with a cumulative battery capacity of 250MW in Wisconsin, US. #energystorage

U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC), with Lockheed Martin, has installed the GridStar? Flow battery at Fort Carson, marking the largest long-duration energy storage system on a United States Department of Defense site. Batteries are crucial to the global clean energy transition International Energy Agency's (IEA) latest report highlights just how pivotal battery storage is in the energy transition. As renewable energy expands, batteries are more than just a tool — they are vital to grid stability and meeting global energy goals. The report underscores several critical aspects that align closely with Australian Flow Batteries’ (AFB's) mission: - Batteries must scale rapidly to meet global energy goals. Battery storage needs to increase 14-fold by 2030 to 1,200 GW globally, with batteries accounting for 90% of the required energy storage increase. - Cost reduction is key. The IEA notes that battery prices have dropped by 90% in the past 15 years. - Battery supply chains need diversification. With current battery manufacturing and mineral sourcing concentrated in a few countries, the world needs new solutions. - Utility-scale batteries are critical. The IEA highlights the increasing competitiveness of batteries paired with renewable energy. - Batteries play a direct role in reducing close to 20% of the CO2 emissions needed by 2030, with an additional 40% reduction through the support of broader clean electrification efforts.
