In honor of Amateur Movie Day, our Audiovisual Preservation & Digitization team is hosting a virtual screening on March 14 at 3 p.m. of "Films on Sports presents Baseball Instruction Series: Bats." Congratulations to Alan Green, Professor and Head of the Music & Dance Library at University Libraries on being nominated for the 2025 Claude V. Palisca Award from the American Musicological Society. Alan is being nominated for his edition of Allen Sapp: Violin Sonatas I–IV and Viola Sonata (A-R Editions, 2024). The Claude V. Palisca Award highlights the best “scholarly edition or translation in the field of musicology published during the previous year.” Please join us in congratulating Alan!

It’s time to celebrate the centennial of The New Yorker magazine and the exhibit, “See Anyone You Know? The New Yorker Cartoons and Covers of Edward Koren!” at The Billy Ireland Cartoon Library & Museum. This event provides a rare chance to hear from The New Yorker cartoonist Emily Flake, followed by a discussion of Edward Koren’s legacy and a reception and open house where you can explore our museum galleries. Our Interlibrary Services team of four helps people at The Ohio State University and beyond with research, teaching and more. From July 2023 to June 2024, the team kept busy fulfilling requests worldwide for items including documents, books and articles. Here are some of their accomplishments throughout the year.

Tessa Gatz has accepted the Director of Strategic Marketing & Communications position with The Ohio State University Libraries, where she'll champion our strategic marketing efforts. In this role, Tessa will develop and lead marketing initiatives that share our story, amplify key messages and enhance our strategic momentum while working collaboratively with partners across University Libraries and the university’s Office of Marketing and Communications to ensure brand consistency and alignment. Christina will contribute to the development of policies and programs that attract, retain and promote a highly skilled and effective workforce while enhancing the overall growth and development within Libraries. Tim Lanza, AV Preservation and Digitization Lead, and Sarah Hartzell, AV Preservation and Digitization Specialist, will present their team’s hard work at The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and The Ohio State University Libraries AV Preservation and Digitization Lab, respectively. The restoration of the film “Elijah Pierce: Woodcarver” (Carolyn Jones, 1974) will make its post-restoration world premiere at a MoMA screening on January 26. Tim will introduce this film, which is part of the Ohio State Photography and Camera Department Records held by University Archives. The AV Preservation and Digitization team received a National Film Preservation Foundation grant to preserve and restore the film. On Feb. 20, Sarah and Tim will present several films they’ve encountered through their work remediating and digitizing items from various University Libraries’ Special Collections. This presentation is part of a free event that will be held at the Wexner Center for the Arts and will include the Elijah Pierce piece, video from computer animation pioneer Charles Csuri, footage of astronaut Alan Shepard following the first manned flight into space by an American, rare Antarctic expedition footage from the Byrd Polar and Climate Research Center and more. Olivia Wood has accepted the Metadata Specialist position with The Ohio State University Libraries. In this role, Olivia will create, transform and remediate metadata related to digitized and born-digital library materials. She will also conduct metadata audits, ensuring digital accessibility of legacy and incoming content in various file formats. Please join us in welcoming Olivia!
