Tim Lanza, AV Preservation and Digitization Lead, and Sarah Hartzell, AV Preservation and Digitization Specialist, will present their team’s hard work at The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and The Ohio State University Libraries AV Preservation and Digitization Lab, respectively. The restoration of the film “Elijah Pierce: Woodcarver” (Carolyn Jones, 1974) will make its post-restoration world premiere at a MoMA screening on January 26. Tim will introduce this film, which is part of the Ohio State Photography and Camera Department Records held by University Archives. The AV Preservation and Digitization team received a National Film Preservation Foundation grant to preserve and restore the film. On Feb. 20, Sarah and Tim will present several films they’ve encountered through their work remediating and digitizing items from various University Libraries’ Special Collections. This presentation is part of a free event that will be held at the Wexner Center for the Arts and will include the Elijah Pierce piece, video from computer animation pioneer Charles Csuri, footage of astronaut Alan Shepard following the first manned flight into space by an American, rare Antarctic expedition footage from the Byrd Polar and Climate Research Center and more.
