The College of Agricultural Sciences at Oregon State University is on the front lines of addressing some of the world’s most pressing challenges. We have more than 2,600 students, 250 professional faculty, $90M in R&D expenditures, and 40 degree programs serving 220 commodities in Oregon. Meet Estifanos Berhe, a remarkable undergraduate at Oregon State University, double-majoring in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and Bioresource Research. After immigrating from Ethiopia at age 12, Estifanos faced challenges adapting to a new culture and language. However, his resilience and determination have propelled him to excel academically and personally. Leigh Torres' work has taken her all over the world as she studies the behavior and environment of marine animals including blue whales. ?? As an associate professor and marine ecologist in OSU’s Marine Mammal Institute in Newport, Ore., she leads the Geospatial Ecology of Marine Megafauna (GEMM) Lab. We’re thrilled to celebrate her outstanding contributions to agriculture education and outreach! Over the past 5 years, Dr. Ranches has: ? Led Calving Schools across Oregon, helping ranchers improve calving season success. ? Developed the Ranching Academy, a hands-on, yearlong program for beef producers. ? Launched RancHER, a global webinar series highlighting women in the livestock industry, with over 500 participants and 24 inspiring speakers. ? Shared her expertise nationally & internationally, from magazine contributions to speaking engagements in Brazil, Germany, and Mexico. ? Led collaborative efforts as Co-coordinator of Oregon’s Beef Quality Assurance program and chair of key Extension working groups.
