  • This International Women's Day, we celebrate Carrie Berger, Fire Program Manager for OSU Forestry & Natural Resources Extension. A leader in wildfire education and preparedness, Carrie co-leads a team of regional fire specialists dedicated to helping communities live with fire risks. Her work is breaking barriers to make prescribed fire more accessible across Oregon, ensuring critical tools are used safely and effectively. Her leadership is driving change, building stronger communities and shaping a fire-adapted future. Through publications and webinars, Carrie has brought to life Not All Flame is the the Same, helping Oregonians understand wildfire in new ways. Her leadership also extends nationally as part of the NEWFI initiative, advancing wildfire education and engagement across the country. Her impact goes beyond her role—she’s a two-time national award winner for the Spanish-language publication, Nuestro futuro en nuestras manos, ensuring fire education reaches all communities. And in her own neighborhood, she gives back as a Firewise coordinator, helping residents prepare for wildfire risk. Carrie is one of the many incredible women who make OSU Extension what it is—turning knowledge into action and leading change where it matters most.
