Developing an advanced wave energy converter to unlock the tremendous renewable energy potential of the world's oceans.
关于我们
Oscilla Power, Inc. (OPI) is developing advanced technology to harness electricity from ocean waves. Oscilla Power is a privately held company based in Seattle, WA. The Oscilla Power Triton Wave Energy Converter (WEC) enables low cost, survivable and high reliability conversion of ocean waves into grid-scale, utility-grade power. The Triton architecture is a two-body point absorber with a surface floating hull and a submerged reaction structure. Waves acting on the surface impart relative motion which can be extracted through a proprietary hybrid hydraulic-electric drivetrain. Oscilla's technology has been validated externally through a number of independent sources including the US department of energy (Wave Energy Prize) and the European Marine Energy Center (EMEC). This validation is emphasized by the fact that Oscilla Power has received more than $20M in competitive grant funding to progress the technology development, supported by private equity and matching funds from the state of Washington.

After completing the analysis of the sub-scale version of our 1 MW-rated Triton system, we can now say that we have an excellent match with our predictions. The image below shows?the match between the measured data from the 1/6th?scale model and?our numerical projections across a range of sea states.?While there are certainly things we learned from this deployment that we can improve upon, these results helped us check off a critical milestone.? ? This data not only validates our power and electricity cost predictions for locations such as the US West Coast, but it also provides critical levels of confidence to?support the ongoing engineering and design?of the full-scale system. This significantly reduces risk and will ultimately reduce costs and time while increasing the performance of the 1-MW utility-scale Triton. ? Kudos to our incredible team. This work is a fantastic validation of their smartness, perseverance, and innovation.

We are very proud to announce that our 1/6th?scale Triton system has been installed in the water off Castine, Maine, and is now generating power! The deployment of the sub-scale 1MW Triton wave energy converter is the culmination of an incredible amount of effort by our highly talented technical team led by Tim Mundon and Brian Rosenberg, and represents a major achievement and a key milestone for the company.? None of this would be possible without the support of the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE), U.S. Department of Energy, Water Power Technologies Office, WA State Department of Commerce, as well as our collaborators at UMaine Advanced Structures & Composites Center, Maine Maritime Academy, Glosten, Kleinschmidt Associates, Applied Motion Systems, Inc., and many more. The data from this scaled testing will help us accurately predict how much power our full-scale Triton system can generate at various locations worldwide. https://lnkd.in/gNywimgN?
