Oscilla Power is completing the manufacturing of our MicroTriton??prototype which will be deployed and tested off the North Carolina coast later this year. The MicroTriton??is a 100 W rated wave and solar energy powered instrument platform that can be easily transported and deployed from a small boat. It is able to host a variety of active monitoring payloads that can provide a unique persistent capability for defense, homeland security, or oceanography applications.

Oscilla has developed a novel design for a wave-powered autonomous underwater vehicle which was selected as a winner for the concept phase of the #PowerAtSea Prize! This vehicle can be a platform for integration or desired customer payloads for ocean monitoring, defense, homeland security and ISR applications, for extended duration missions. Oscilla Power?received?a new $1.15 million award from US DOE to develop the next version of our?MicroTriton?system. This Phase 2B SBIR award will allow us improve the performance of our system and demonstrate it in a port security application.

Oscilla Power is proud to announce that it has been selected for a $750k grant from Washington State. This new funding will help Oscilla continue the development of the novel drivetrain technology drivetrain for the 1 MW Triton wave energy converter. After completing the analysis of the sub-scale version of our 1 MW-rated Triton system, we can now say that we have an excellent match with our predictions. The image below shows?the match between the measured data from the 1/6th?scale model and?our numerical projections across a range of sea states.?While there are certainly things we learned from this deployment that we can improve upon, these results helped us check off a critical milestone.? ? This data not only validates our power and electricity cost predictions for locations such as the US West Coast, but it also provides critical levels of confidence to?support the ongoing engineering and design?of the full-scale system. This significantly reduces risk and will ultimately reduce costs and time while increasing the performance of the 1-MW utility-scale Triton. ? Kudos to our incredible team. This work is a fantastic validation of their smartness, perseverance, and innovation.
