OSCARS - Open Science Clusters' Action for Research & Society

关于我们

OSCARS is a four-year EU-funded project that will foster the uptake of Open Science in Europe by consolidating the achievements of world-class European research infrastructures in the ESFRI roadmap and beyond into lasting interdisciplinary FAIR data services and working practices. The project will strengthen the role of the Science Clusters in the ERA by developing domain-based Competence Centres and by fostering the implementation of Open Science projects funded through a cascading grant mechanism. -- The OSCARS project has received funding from the European Commission’s Horizon Europe Research and Innovation programme under grant agreement No. 101129751

Director of LAPP - Laboratoire d’Annecy de Physique des Particules @ CNRS - Director of ESCAPE - Coordinator of OSCARS - FCC Study - Astro & Particle Physics. Science & Innovation. Open Research.

Today, an online workshop of the ESFRI-EOSC task force (https://lnkd.in/dYgUf-X6) was held to learn about the first results of the implementation of the OSCARS cascading grants. 36 participants, coordinators of Science Clusters, members of the boards of ESFRI and EOSC, officials from the European Commission's RTD Directorate, observers from the ERIC forum, EIRO forum, EOSC association, e-IRG noted the success of the OSCARS calls. As highlighted in my presentation : - The OSCARS’s cascading grants call is seen as a relevant tool to provide scientific content to EOSC. - Future cascading grant calls should be envisaged during the implementation of the EOSC Federation to facilitate integration among Nodes and validate their scientific impact. - Through OSCARS we demonstrate that the five Science Clusters have taken paths to become long-term structures, they act to consolidate the close collaboration between ESFRI and EOSC, they support the national institutes and the scientific communities in enhancing their involvement in Open Science in ERA, they federate the involvement of ESFRI-endorsed Research Infrastructures (RIs) and other world-class RIs in EOSC. - There is an important demand for highly composable virtual research environments per scientific domain for comprehensive hosting of open science projects and federation of data repositories. Such environments would enable co-operation schemes with other national nodes (EOSCs) and be instrumental in accessing pan-European RIs, for multidisciplinary projects, including those bridging industries and other sectoral data spaces. - The pilot projects participate in supporting ESFRIs in their preparatory phases as well as in consolidating the work programme of each cluster, while allowing synergies to be structured between the various scientific fields. • ?? The OSCARS Annual General Meeting has officially concluded! We conducted the last two World Café sessions, which provided a valuable space for collaboration, enabling participants to address common challenges and explore sustainable pathways for the future of Open Science. ?? The second session focused on identifying shared obstacles and developing potential solutions. By setting the topics themselves, participants engaged in insightful discussions that fostered alignment and created new opportunities for collaboration across science clusters, work packages, and funded projects. ?? In the third session, discussions centred on the sustainability of project results and the strategies required for their long-term implementation. Conversations focused on the role of #EOSC as a vehicle for sustainability and explored whether national funding could contribute to ensuring the continuity and impact of project outcomes. ?? The most widely agreed-upon input was the need to maintain ongoing contact and foster cross-domain collaboration between the funded projects! Thank you to all the participants to consolidate the efforts and collaborative work. All of them raised valuable ideas, inputs, and opinions, not only on the activities already planned but also, and especially, on the next activities for the coming years.

OSCARS: 1 year into the project ?? As we conclude the first year of our project, we would like to share the progress made across our work packages (WPs). Each WP was presented by its respective representative, who provided updates and insights into the achievements of the past year, the events organised, and the key milestones reached. ?? WP1 - Cluster Open Science Competence Centres (CLOCC) (Jordi Bodera) ?? WP2 - Composable Research Infrastructure Services in EOSC (CRISE) (Sally Chambers) ?? WP3 - Testing and Widening Uptake (TEWE) (Anca Hineola and Romain David) ?? WP4 - Management, Communication & Open Calls (MACC) (Friederike Schmidt-Tremmel, Nicoletta Carboni and Rob Carrillo) WP2 is an integral part of WP1, concentrating on the composability of RIs' services for further integration with the EOSC. WP3 acts as a crucial link, testing and broadening the uptake of solutions developed through WP1 and WP2. WP4, with its focus on open calls management, which also includes the OSCARS Grants Platform that has enabled hundreds of applicants and evaluators to work on the applications submitted. The WP will continue to play a vital role in the next phase, driving forward synergistic actions across all work packages and Science Clusters. This collaboration will strengthen the efforts to enhance visibility, foster engagement with a diverse range of stakeholders, and maximise the impact of both the science clusters and funded projects. Looking ahead, the consortium will continue to build on the solid foundation laid during the first year. The next phase will focus on delivering the key planned activities, achieving important milestones, and reinforcing collaboration through synergistic actions across the work packages and science clusters. Engaging with a wider range of stakeholders and ensuring the success of open calls will be central to achieving our shared goals and advancing the European Open Science Cloud.
