I’ve seen firsthand how vital trust is in precepting. We’re often asked to guide new nurses without much notice, but here’s the key: trust isn’t built on perfection, it’s built on presence. 1?? Be Present – Even in the chaos, take those moments to truly connect. Listen to their concerns and celebrate their progress. 2?? Honesty is Everything – If you’re unsure about something, admit it! Transparency builds trust. 3?? Encourage Independence – Trust grows when you give them space to think critically and make decisions while knowing you’re there if needed. 4?? Stay Calm, Stay Kind – Things won’t always go as planned, but your calm, supportive energy will help your preceptee feel safe and confident. Every shift is a chance to inspire and grow together. ??
