Proven, reliable underwater power systems that generate economical & sustainable energy from free-flowing rivers & tides
关于我们
Proven and reliable underwater power systems that generate clean energy from free-flowing tides and rivers, ORPC improves people’s lives and their environment through sustainable energy solutions. A global leader in marine renewable energy (MRE) technology and project solutions, we are initially focused on solving the problem of high cost, environmentally-risky diesel power generation in remote islanded communities by harnessing the power of ocean and river currents to create clean predictable locally produced renewable energy. Worldwide we are the only company to have built, operated and delivered power to a utility grid from an MRE tidal project, and to a local microgrid from an MRE river project. ORPC is committed to working with local partners and creating local economic opportunities. In 2019, ORPC launched its commercial RivGen? Power System in Igiugig, Alaska, supplying energy to the remote community and setting record as the longest operating current energy converter device in the Americas. ORPC has installed a second RivGen device in Igiugig, along with smart grid technology and energy storage, with the goal of decreasing the community’s diesel fuel use by 60-90%. ORPC has developed a globally respected knowledge database of fisheries and marine life interaction with our power systems, and in over a decade, no known adverse impacts have been observed in either river or ocean environments. Our projects are carried out in full collaboration with local communities, universities, environmental agencies, fishing industry groups and other stakeholders. ORPC is pursuing strategic and financial partnerships that will allow us to expand our operations in North America, South America and Europe, and supply our commercial power systems and expertise worldwide where ocean and river energy resources exist.

ORPC Ireland will play a key role in the SHINES project--deploying and operating an ORPC RivGen Power System at Fondation OPEN-C's grid-connected test site in the Garonne River, Bordeaux, France, and developing a pipeline of follow-up installations. This will be the first deployment of an ORPC commercial system in Europe. Last fall ORPC Ireland conducted successful turbine testing at the Queen's University Belfast Marine Laboratory (QML) Tidal Test Site in Strangford Lough, Northern Ireland,?generating electricity for the first time outside the U.S. and Canada. #ORPCIreland #SHINES #RivGen
?? Launch of #SHINES A project to Harness Tidal and River Energy Potential in North-West Europe The SHINES project is set to unlock the potential of tidal and river energy systems. North-West Europe is a prime location for #tidal and #riverenergy development, thanks to its unique natural features. Despite its potential, tidal and river energy requires further investment to overcome political, economic, and regulatory hurdles. SHINES will address these challenges by replicating and scaling up three innovative solutions through Pilot Actions in France and the Netherlands. ?? As project leader of the SHINES project, at #FondationOPENC we're looking forward to the challenge of developing several tidal turbine projects, by leading the project and in particular by testing them at our 2 dedicated sites: Paimpol-Bréhat and SEENEOH. ? With the 14 partners, we are confident that the enthusiastic and fresh team assembled by #SHINES will succeed in our core mission: accelerating the energy transition in a sustainable way! Led by ORPC with major funding from the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy | U.S. Department of Energy Water Power Technologies Office, the American Tidal Energy Project aims to accelerate commercial scale-up of the U.S. tidal energy industry by working in the highest-potential tidal site in the nation--Cook Inlet, Alaska. 30 million homes nationwide could be powered by river and tidal power, creating thousands of domestic jobs to support the industry. ORPC’s proven next-gen hydropower technology will strengthen grid security and resiliency and help our country to achieve energy autonomy and dominance. ORPC looks forward to continuing the American Tidal Energy Project in partnership with U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and its Alaska-based partners, and with support at local, state and federal levels.
