Last month, Christopher and Virginia spent some quality time in Asia!?? First stop: Philippines Joint Transplant Summit, where Virginia presented an update on our LifePort Kidney Transporter (LKT), LifePort Liver Transporter, and oxygenation technology. They then traveled to Bangkok, Thailand, to train our LKT distributor, Medical Solutions Co. Their travels next took them to Vietnam to attend the Vietnam Organ Transplant Science Conference in Hanoi, where Dr. Won-Bae Chang from Jeju National University Hospital presented on his team's kidney pumping outcomes. Dr. Won-Bae Chang and his team are the first LKT users in South Korea. He discussed how LKT has helped mitigate long CIT and enabled scheduling flexibility for their kidney transplant surgeries.

What is the impact of kidney pumping on cold ischemia time (CIT) and delayed graft function (DGF)? This retrospective cohort study by Husain et al. analyzed US registry data. Investigators identified kidney pairs from the same donor where there was a notable difference in CIT between the kidneys. The results showed that kidneys with longer CIT were associated with a higher risk of DGF. However, if a kidney with longer CIT is pumped, it had a lower risk of DGF than its counterpart kidney with shorter CIT. The authors concluded that pumping kidneys may mitigate and even overcome the adverse consequences of prolonged CIT on the risk of DGF. Read the article here: https://lnkd.in/g9Jag96i

A native Brazilian, I’ve worked as an International LifePort Advisor for the past 13 years supporting physicians worldwide in starting HMP programs at their transplant centers. I’ve always had a passion for new technologies and their ability to improve people’s lives. Before joining ORS, I worked for a biotech company that manufactures enzymes for rare disease therapies. Knowing that my work helps physicians save more lives is extremely fulfilling. My greatest achievement at ORS was helping a group of physicians from Argentina establish a National LifePort Perfusion Program. A fun fact about me is that I speak three languages and I’m researching which one to learn next. Having recently relocated from Brazil to Florida, I love taking my dog to the beach and spending time there with my son and husband. I also foster stray dogs and help them find their forever homes. ?? These activities help me recharge and bring a fresh perspective to my work. ??#WhoisORS
