Running faucets in cold weather wastes up to 3,000 gallons daily — equal to 1,250 to 1,875 toilet flushes. Use these SMART tips to protect your plumbing:   ✔️ Seal drafts around windows, doors, and pipe entry points.   ✔️ Monitor pipes in crawl spaces, basements, and exposed areas.   ✔️ Add insulation with foam or heat tape.   ✔️ Raise the temperature by opening cabinets or using heaters.   ✔️ Talk to a pro if needed.      Most underground pipes are safe, but exposed pipes need extra care during the cold. Always check your local building codes and regulations — requirements vary, especially in extreme climates.
