Director of Information System & Cloud Operations @ HCL Software | Centralized and Tech Agnostic Observability | OpenTelemetry | AIOps | Orchestrating Cloud Solutions | co-organizer CNCG Noida

During the recent CNCG Chandigarh event, a few attendees asked me an interesting question: "Can a fresher start their career as a DevOps or SRE engineer, or does it require prior experience?" My take is Yes, freshers can start in DevOps—just like any other field. If you have the right foundational skills, nothing is stopping you. But the bigger question is: "How do we gain these skills when most colleges don’t teach DevOps in depth?" My advice: skip the YouTube tutorials and build your foundation through solid books. Here are my top picks: ?? Foundational Books for DevOps and SRE The Phoenix Project (https://lnkd.in/gs7t4iZx) – A DevOps novel that explains real-world challenges through storytelling. A must-read to understand the "why" behind DevOps. Practical Monitoring (https://lnkd.in/gGSzwYvs) – A concise guide that covers the fundamentals of monitoring and how an effective monitoring looks, essential for SREs. Linux for Networking Professionals (https://lnkd.in/gDETKUc5) – Linux and networking skills are crucial for DevOps/SRE roles. This book Covers networking concepts like LB, NAT, DNS, network monitoring, intrusion detection and how Linux help in implementing these capabilities. Modern DevOps Practices (https://lnkd.in/g8qk3cVu) – Provides a high-level overview of modern DevOps tools and practices. DevOps Adoption Playbook (https://lnkd.in/g8dwG2ig) – Practical strategies for implementing DevOps in organizations. ?? Observability Books Observability Engineering (https://lnkd.in/g5ZCknAk) – A must-read on metrics, logs, and traces for building reliable systems. Practical OpenTelemetry – Hands-on guide to OpenTelemetry instrumentation—a key skill for modern observability. Mastering OpenTelemetry and Observability (https://lnkd.in/gWNG2SDT) – Covers advanced OpenTelemetry concepts and observability strategies. ?? Kubernetes Books Kubernetes–An Enterprise Guide (https://lnkd.in/g3tWZb28) – Covers scaling, troubleshooting, and operations in production. Kubernetes Patterns (https://lnkd.in/gRQtYjuC) – Teaches design patterns for building scalable K8s apps. Programming Kubernetes - developers interested in extending Kubernetes capabilities through custom controllers & operators Kubernetes in Production Best Practices (https://lnkd.in/gsJJ4VsE) – Practical tips for running Kubernetes at scale. ??Microservices Security Microservices Security in Action (https://lnkd.in/giDpveyJ) – A deep dive into OAuth, OIDC, JWT, and API security essential for DevOps architects. if you're a fresher aiming for DevOps, SRE roles build your foundation through quality books rather than scattered online content. I also recommend O'Reilly subscription as it give you access to most of the above books as well as a lot more great content including online live trainings and webinars. Check our the pics for my collection (many more than the listed above) #DevOps #SRE #Observability #CloudNative #CareerGrowth #TechBooks #AIOps #Kubernetes #LearningPath

    Senior Product Designer

Psychology is Everything UX Laws – Second Edition" by Jon Yablonski is a quick, practical read that really gets to the heart of what makes digital products work well. It breaks down key UX principles into bite-sized, actionable insights that anyone—designer or not—can appreciate. My biggest takeaway is how these simple laws can guide us in creating smoother, more intuitive experiences. Even a subtle reminder to consider our users' needs makes a big difference in designing solutions that feel right. Let me know if you would like to learn more about each UX law

Software Development Consultant | IT Strategy & Digital Transformation

I recently came across O'Reilly Technology Trends for 2025 report by Mike Loukides. It's a thoughtful and well-structured snapshot of where tech is heading. If you haven’t seen it yet, here’s the free download: https://lnkd.in/dg8A_K9U Two moments that stood out to me: ?? 1. AI development is moving toward building agents — software that can plan and execute complex tasks. This is exactly the direction we’re moving in at #Intetics, with projects like our Enterprise Knowledge Assistant and an AI-powered virtual nurse supporting over 100,000 patients daily. (You can find both posts linked in the comments below.) ?? 2. Software architecture and distributed systems are gaining momentum, while interest in microservices and serverless systems is fading. At the same time, the report makes a good reminder: AI may reduce memorization needs, but problem-solving skills remain critical. Well worth the read. #AI #SoftwareDevelopment #Architecture #DistributedSystems #ProblemSolving #OReilly

At the top is a quote from a reader praising the book for helping developers from a Java background ramp up quickly. On the right, a hand-drawn rocket and a handwritten annotation read:
"Learn how to work with AI, not just copy its code. Head First C# gives junior developers the skills to think critically, debug confidently, and build real software with AI as a tool—not a crutch."
