Oregon is seeing historic levels of evictions. These are friends, families, and neighbors. Add to this recent advances in artificial intelligence is giving landlords another work around our laws to prevent rent spikes through price fixing. This leaves households even more vulnerable to displacement or homelessness due to high rents. We need the Oregon Legislature to close the loopholes on our current cap on annual rent increases, that allow predatory rent hikes without limits this legislative session. This cannot wait. https://lnkd.in/g72-rHGY #TenantPower

Happy Lunar New Year from CAT! Today is the start of the lunar calendar and marks a time for family reunions, honoring ancestors, and celebrating new beginnings. This East and SE Asian celebration lasts 15 days. Last week CAT staff gathered at APANO with some of our neighbors over great food and conversation to welcome in this new year! #LunarNewYear #2025 #TenantPower

"The agency reported that the identified landlords operate more than 1.3 million rental units in 43 states nationwide. According to court documents, renters in several local submarkets — including Central Portland, Hillsboro and West Beaverton — have been or could have been harmed by RealPage’s algorithm." https://lnkd.in/gisHFx9p

SAY IT AGAIN FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK ? : "According to Kim McCarty, executive director of the Community Alliance of Tenants, November was National Homelessness Awareness Month, and unfortunately, Oregon is experiencing the highest rate of eviction in its history, and Black women are three times more likely to experience eviction than White women. The group is advocating for fewer apartment buildings to be allowed to increase rents “but the rent is still too damn high,” McCarty said. “And we need to get rid of late fees and application fees… Housing justice is racial justice.”" https://lnkd.in/g82CuzAv #OregonCAT #TenantPower #TheRentIsTooDamnHigh
