?? Legal Summit for Child Advocacy Centers (CACs) ?? We were excited to have hosted a virtual training in mid-January focused on critical legal topics for Children’s Advocacy Centers (CACs). This session covered: ?? Policies related to the release, protection (HIPAA), and retention of CAC assessment records ?? Special rules governing mental health and child abuse records ?? The Oregon Legislature Kicks Off on January 21 As the 2025 legislative session begins, OCAS is hard at work preparing materials for Oregon’s Children’s Advocacy Centers (CACs) to help engage our leaders in prioritizing the safety and well-being of children. In February, we’ll be hosting our statewide membership meeting where CAC Directors from across Oregon will visit their representatives in Salem to advocate for kids—alongside the dedicated staff and volunteers of OCAS. This is a crucial opportunity to ensure that the voices of children and families are heard at the state level. ?? Shining a Spotlight on Child Trafficking: A Global Crisis ?? Millions of children and teens around the world are being exploited through forced labor or commercial sexual exploitation. Tragically, children who face neglect, abuse, or lack stable support systems are particularly vulnerable to trafficking. By raising awareness, we can: ?? Educate communities on how to recognize the signs of trafficking. ?? Empower children to protect themselves. ?? Support survivors in their recovery. Children and teens who are trafficked may show subtle signs that something is wrong, including: Behavioral changes: Increased anxiety, isolation, or withdrawal. Physical signs: Unexplained injuries, malnourishment, or branding tattoos. Other indicators: Sudden absences from school, secrecy, or unusual connections with older individuals. If you suspect trafficking, don’t wait. Call the National Human Trafficking Hotline at 1-888-373-7888. Early intervention saves lives. Prevention Tips: ???
