Today, we announced that our research expenditures for fiscal year 2024 were a record $422 million, a nearly 15% increase from 2023. We are making strong progress toward increasing our annual research expenditures to $600 million by 2030, the goal set in Oregon State University’s strategic plan. I am inspired by the Oregon State community’s commitment to world-class scholarship, research and innovation, and proud of the faculty, staff and students who made this year’s successes possible.

?? Thrilled to be part of the 2024 ASA, CSSA, SSSA International Annual Meeting as we launch CANVAS — a new name and platform that unites crop, agronomic, environmental, and soil sciences! CANVAS represents the collaborative spirit of our field, where diverse disciplines intersect to paint a clearer picture of sustainable solutions for our planet. The opening keynote by Dr. Susan Crow reminded us of the beauty and complexity of Hawaiian agriculture, urging us to “look closer” at the landscapes around us. Attending the WE24 national conference with over 20,000 passionate women in engineering from across the U.S. and around the world was truly inspiring. The sense of community among strong, talented women determined to leave their mark in a field where women are often the minority was powerful. From insightful keynotes and engaging panels to connecting with incredible SWE members, the experience further developed my personal and professional growth. WE24 is a vital reminder of the importance of uplifting and supporting each other in STEM. It is so important to have a network of women who understand the challenges of navigating a male dominated industry.
