How can 3D scanning and augmented reality help visitors to Oregon's coastal wildlife reserves understand and learn about these unique ecosystems? Can AR help Oregonians to appreciate and protect the natural wilife diversity that lives under water? We joined the researchers, designers and developers from the Oregon Reality (OR) Lab on site to teach a 3D Gaussian Splatting workshop, scan the Otter Rock reserve, and begin to understand these questions. Thanks for the great day Danny Pimentel! What an excellent start to this partnership! #3DGS #3DGaussianSplatting #3DGaussianSplats #3DGaussianSplat #ux #research #ar #spatialcomputing #augmentedreality
?? Ducks on the coast! The University of Oregon Oregon Reality (OR) Lab Snap AR Scholars team met up at #OtterRock to grab some gaussian splats (thank you Nathan C Bowser and Niantic, Inc. #Scaniverse), interview visitors, and understand user perceptions of AR wearables like Snap AR #Spectacles. This is part of a larger project examining how organizations like the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife can leverage #AR for marine education + conservation. We'll be building some AR visualization tools to tell the story of Oregon's marine reserves, hopefully building ocean empathy and ocean literacy along the way. Really interesting to observe technology use at the beach, especially among surfers and inland passersby. More to come, so stay tuned!
